How Marvels Avengers Hawkeye Will Be Different Than Kate Bishop

In the not-too-distant future, Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game is going to have two archers in its lineup. Already in the game is Kate Bishop, the youngest hero to wield a bow in Marvel canon, and the hunt is on for her mentor, Hawkeye. Clint Barton is the central focus of Kate’s “Taking A.I.M.” campaign, where Marvel’s Avengers’ heroes have to team up to take on the Super-Adaptoid and rescue him. While he appears as a nonplayable ally in that mission, Hawkeye is set to be the next character added to the game in the upcoming “Future Imperfect” storyline. So how will Hawkeye and Kate Bishop be different?

“Future Imperfect” is a storyline ripped straight from the comics that introduces a Marvel universe devastated by Nuclear War. The Hulk has grown an impressive beard and become the ruler of this Dystopia, changing his name to Maestro in the process. It seems Clint will venture back into an alternate future to take on this alternate Hulk, although the exact details of the story are still forthcoming. While not much is known about the Marvel’s Avengers mission as of yet, Square Enix has already provided some info about how Clint and Kate will function.

On a surface level, both archers are very similar heroes. As MCU fans will see in the upcoming Hawkeye show on Disney+, Clint trains Kate in the use of both sword and bow. But both characters bring their own flair to combat. In the comics, Kate gets her combat training from the original Hawkeye, but she also uses the battle staves first used by Mockingbird and trick arrows gifted to her by the Black Panther. Since she arrives fully formed in Marvel’s Avengers, it’s hard to know her exact origins and how they differ from the comics, but it’s easy to assume they’re not dissimilar.

How Will Hawkeye & Kate Bishop’s Movesets Differ In Marvel’s Avengers?

Kate’s arsenal in the Marvel’s Avengers game has her regularly firing off Quantum Arrows and Explosive Arrows, and Crystal Dynamics confirmed via a recent stream that Clint’s quiver is packing different heat. The new character will use Pulsar Arrows, which act like trip mines wherever they’re fired around a battlefield. Clint also has access to Tripwire Arrows to keep enemies on their toes. Hawkeye will also wield a sword just like Kate, but their attacks will differ significantly – especially since Kate can blink around the arena, while Hawkeye has to keep his boots on the ground.

Beyond the differences in combat style, Hawkeye’s hero abilities will also be completely distinct from Marvel’s Avengers’ first archer. While it is somewhat odd that two characters with such similar movesets are also the first two additions to the superhero game’s roster, it’s also great that Kate Bishop isn’t just a reskin (or worse, a premium costume) for Hawkeye. Instead, the Young Avenger can shine alongside her mentor in-game, perhaps opening the door for more interesting Marvel’s Avengers character additions from across the company’s vast comics universe in the future.
