How Powerful Every ZWarrior Became After Dragon Ball Z Ended

The Z-Warriors – or at least some of them – have come quite a long way with regards to their power levels since Dragon Ball Z ended. Going all the way back to the original Dragon Ball, Goku and his friends have always been training and improving their strength.

Part of the formula of the Dragon Ball franchise is that every villain is more of a challenge than the last. Dragon Ball Super’s main antagonists – Beerus, Golden Frieza, Zamasu, and Jiren – were all several levels above all the opponents Goku had in Dragon Ball Z. This is why it’s so important for Goku and Vegeta to keep up with their training. They have to keep improving so that they’ll have the strength necessary to contend with the next big threat. If these characters didn’t constantly shatter their own limits, the world would have been destroyed long ago.

While some have made big improvements and have even unlocked brand-new transformations, not every main hero has been able to make significant progress when it comes to their strength. What this means is that the Z-Warriors have had varying results in their training in the time that’s passed since the defeat of Kid Buu. Here’s how strong every Z-Warrior has become since Dragon Ball Z concluded.

Goku

In Dragon Ball Super, Goku achieved three new forms: Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, and Ultra Instinct. The latter two transformations were reached through training with Whis, who has helped pushed Goku to new levels of power. By going Ultra Instinct and proving himself superior to Universe 11’s Jiren, Goku’s strength is on par with that of a God of Destruction, which is what Jiren was compared to during the Tournament of Power.

Vegeta

Goku is still the strongest Z-Warrior, but unsurprisingly, Vegeta isn’t far behind him. In fact, the gap between them may be slightly narrower than it was in Dragon Ball Z. Like Goku, Vegeta is one of the most powerful beings in Universe 7. His intense training has even allowed him access to a state that Goku himself doesn’t have yet, which is the Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form.

Gohan

Gohan, who had the potential to outclass all the Z-Warriors, disappointed his allies by shifting his priorities away from fighting after the Cell Saga. This continued into Dragon Ball Super, and it wasn’t until the Tournament of Power that he started catching up to Goku and Vegeta. Thanks to a renewed effort to get stronger, Gohan regained his Ultimate form and is now more powerful than Goku ever was in Dragon Ball Z.

Piccolo

Piccolo isn’t as relevant as he was in the Saiyan and Frieza Sagas, but though his power level is nowhere near Goku and Vegeta, he’s still improved a great deal. Since Piccolo can now defeat Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, it’s clear that at his current strength, he could take down both Perfect Cell and Dabura.

Dragon Ball Super revealed that after Future Trunks returned to his own timeline, he became Earth’s most reliable defender and managed to get victories over Android 17, 18, and Dabura. Later, he acquired the tremendously powerful Super Saiyan Rage form, which is far greater than any transformation Goku was able to do in Dragon Ball Z.

Android 17

Of all the main characters, none may have improved more than Android 17. When Dragon Ball Z left 17, he was about as strong as Piccolo. Apparently, 17 has trained considerably since those days and is now strong enough to go head-to-head with Super Saiyan Blue Goku. That puts him well above everyone in Dragon Ball Z and makes him the franchise’s fourth strongest hero behind Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan.

Android 18

Despite the fact that Android 18 fought on Goku’s team in the Tournament of Power, Dragon Ball Super doesn’t get an opportunity to clearly define her power. She does seem to have made at least some progress, but not nearly as much as her brother. It would appear that she’s only somewhat stronger than she was in the Cell Saga, considering that the gap between her and Krillin isn’t as obvious as it once was.

Master Roshi

Throughout Dragon Ball Z, Master Roshi didn’t do any onscreen fighting and was limited to comedy relief. Roshi stopped keeping up with the Z-Warriors, but Dragon Ball Super retconned that by revealing that Roshi has been secretly training for an undisclosed period of time. Impressively, Roshi now has the strength to beat Tien and hold his own against Goku’s base form.

Krillin

Krillin gave up on fighting after Dragon Ball Z, so even though Goku and Android 18 convinced him to start training again for Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power, Krillin only had a few days to get back into fighting shape. Sparring with Goku helped him make some improvements at least, but due to time constraints, there was a limit on how strong he could become.

Tien

Unlike Krillin, Tien persisted in his training in the gap between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, but regardless of his efforts, he somehow allowed Master Roshi to surpass him. With this in mind, Tien should have still improved a bit more than Krillin, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu did, but not by a wide margin.

Yamcha & Chiaoztu

Yamcha was largely ignored in Dragon Ball Super. He was left out of the Tournament of Power by Goku and left behind by Tien for the battle with the Frieza Force. Though Yamcha was certainly willing to start fighting again for the tournament, all signs in the anime indicated that Yamcha hasn’t done much training (apart from the time he spent developing his “Wolf Fang Pitching Fist Ball” baseball technique). Similar to Krillin, he likely hasn’t come far at all since the ending of Dragon Ball Z. The same could be said for the third member of the Tien-Chiaotzu-Yamcha trio, who hasn’t been involved in the main story since the Saiyan Saga. Unfortunately, Chiaotzu’s last big victory was against Guldo of the Ginyu Force.

Goten & Trunks

Goten and Trunks showed a lot of potential in the Buu Saga when they demonstrated the capability to go Super Saiyan at such a young age. When fused into Gotenks, they had the power to reach the Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Instead of making them more powerful, Dragon Ball Super kept them at approximately the same level. Since they didn’t grow any stronger, they weren’t prepared for any of the challenges thrown at them in Dragon Ball Super. Even after fusing into Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, they were useless against the base form of the cloned Vegeta.
