Following The Wheel of Time’s episode 7 reveal of the Dragon Reborn’s identity, actor Josha Stradowski has hinted at what is in store for his character in the show’s second season. Based on the epic fantasy series penned by the late Robert Jordan, and later completed by Brandon Sanderson, Amazon’s Wheel of Time has attracted a whole new legion of fans since its streaming debut in November. Pulling in massive viewership numbers, the series premiere became the most-watched series premiere on Amazon Prime in 2021 and was also amongst the top premieres on the streaming service since its inception.

With only one episode left for the show’s inaugural season, the latest seventh episode titled “The Dark Along the Ways” finally revealed Stradowski’s character Rand al’Thor as the Dragon Reborn, the prophesized figure who would either come to save or break the world. Not only did the most recent episode reveal Rand’s birth to his Aiel mother on the slopes of Dragonmount, but also showed him channeling the One Power for the first time. Realizing what this meant, Rand later revealed himself to Rosamund Pike’s Moraine and the two characters headed off into the Blight and toward the Eye of the World alone, leaving their friends safely behind in Fal Dara.

Most recently, Stradowski spoke with Collider about the show’s latest reveal and what it will mean for his character moving forward. While the actor was light on details, he did suggest that the show’s second season will mark “the start of a huge identity shift for him”. Check out his full comments below:

I think Season 2 is really about [him] becoming the Dragon Reborn and all the difficulty that comes with that. He is now cut off from his roots, and it really just means the start of a huge identity shift for him in Season 2. (laughs) I think that’s all I can say.

One thing that fans will be keen to see throughout the sophomore season are the effects Rand’s channeling will have on him as he begins to learn how to use Saidin, the male half of the One Power. As the show has already demonstrated with the False Dragon Logain Albar, men who can channel are inevitably affected by the Dark One’s taint and slip into madness. Not only will Rand have to face the reality of his newfound identity, but he will be forced to battle for his own continued sanity.

Rand will also have other threats to face beyond the Dark One, including the Aes Sedai’s militant Red Ajah, who hunt down men who can channel. Moraine’s rival Liandrin, who already suspects her fellow Aes Sedai of hidden schemes, will also have much to say when Rand’s true identity is eventually revealed to the world at large. While The Wheel of Time’s season 1 finale will undoubtedly keep fans glued to their screens, there is still a long journey ahead for Stradowski’s Dragon Reborn.
