How Thor Meets Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers Infinity War

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer ends with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, one of the best things about seeing the various heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming together to fight Thanos (Josh Brolin) will be seeing cool Marvel team-ups on the big screen, and the God of Thunder meeting up with the Guardians is one of the most exciting. Here’s here’s how it will go down.

In Thor: Ragnarok’s mid-credits scene – when we last saw Thor – Thanos’ ship loomed over the Asgardian ship, just when the new Odin and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) thought Asgard’s troubles were behind them. Thanos obviously has come for the Tesseract, AKA the Space Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones that Loki took from Odin’s Vault before Surtur destroyed Asgard. In the trailer, we see Loki holding up the Tesseract while standing over the corpses of the Asgardian; he’s surrendering the Space Stone (and himself) to Thanos.

We actually know how this ends for the God of Thunder. The Infinity War footage shown at D23 this past summer showed a wounded and unconscious Thor sent careening into space, presumably after encountering Thanos, and crashing into the windshield of the Milano, the Guardians’ ship. The stinger at the end of the official Infinity War trailer shows us Thor actually entering the Milano and meeting Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Rocket for the first time.

Their final stop together will be Earth, where Thor will reunite with the Avengers as the heroes make their last stand to try to stop Thanos from assembling the Infinity Gauntlet. Thor is the only Avenger who had been actively seeking answers to the mystery of the Infinity Stones (to no avail) but it looks like Asgard will be tragic casualties of the Infinity War.

According to Chris Pratt, the Guardians will play more of a supporting role in the events of Infinity War:

We definitely will have a strong presence, but we are playing supporting cast – you know what I mean? We’re there to help them tell an awesome Infinity War story.

While the Guardians are dure to have a more vital role to play in the Infinity War besides ferrying Thor back to Earth, the focus of the film definitely looks to be the various heroes who comprise the Avengers. With the Guardians joining the action, though, there is at least there bound to be some irreverent quippy humor breaking up the world-shattering action and foreboding doom as the MCU faces its greatest crisis.
