How to Catch the Legendary Cheep Cheep in Paper Mario

As players progress the main story of Paper Mario: The Origami King, they can find a number of Collectibles and trophies around the 2D world. One trophy players can earn comes from catching two Legendary fish, the Cheep Cheep, and the Blooper. While there are several fishing spots scattered throughout the game, players will be able to find the Legendary Cheep Cheep at a specific location in the middle of the Great Sea. Catching the Legendary Cheep Cheep will bring players a step closer to the Fish Finder Trophy and will award them an art piece for the entrance of the Museum.

Like fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, catching the Legendary Cheep Cheep takes time and patience and is largely a matter of chance or luck. The Cheep Cheep can be found off the coast of Full Moon Island in the Great Sea. To get there, players must board the Princess Peach boat and navigate the waters. This should happen naturally as players progress in the game. Once players get there, they can force the fish to spawn. Here’s how to find and catch the Legendary Cheep Cheep in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

As players navigate the Great Sea, they will come across several islands in multiple shapes. They will need to look at the map and head to Full Moon Island. This is the large, circular island located at F3.

When Mario reaches the island, he will need to go to the fishing spot at the back of the island. Players can catch both Cheep Cheeps and Bloopers from this spot, and they will need to do this a few times to attract the Legendary Cheep Cheep.

To catch the Legendary Cheep Cheep, Mario first needs to cast a line and catch a Cheep Cheep fish of any size from the fishing spot on Full Moon Island. It may help if players turn off motion controls for the game, as fishing can be touchy when these are left on.

To catch a fish, players will need to have Mario cast a line near the mouth of the fish’s shadow. Here, aim is key. If the fish starts nibbling, players will see an exclamation point to alert them when it’s time to reel the fish in. Pressing A should allow Mario to catch the fish without any trouble. Players will receive a note with the fish’s size.

After catching the first fish, players will need to aim to catch a second one, this one larger than the first. To do this, they will need to keep an eye on the size of the shadows and aim the line toward larger and larger fish.

If no large shadow has appeared in the water, players should choose Stop Fishing then Start Fishing again, and larger fish should have spawned. The Legendary Cheep Cheep will be the largest shadow a player sees in the water.

Eventually, from chance and luck, players will reel in the Legendary Cheep Cheep. Once they have done this, they will need to catch the Legendary Blooper to earn their trophy.
