How to Get More Honey in Valheim (& What Its For)

To regenerate health and stamina and resist poison and frost in Valheim, players will need to brew potions, called Meads. Mead is a honey-based alcohol attributed most often to Vikings. In Valheim, players can cultivate a Honey Farm and have a near constant supply of Honey for their Meads. Getting Honey in Valheim is no simple task. Players need to break beehives from inside abandoned homes, but they will need to be careful not to get poisoned while hitting it. When they break a beehive, they will be rewarded with some Honey and a Queen Bee, which can be used to start a beehive at the player’s base. Honey itself is useful as a food, but it is more useful when it is turned into a Mead Base.

Players can craft a beehive at their base for their Queen Bee to start getting Honey at home. As they find more hives in the wilderness and collect more Queen Bees, they can begin a Honey Farm. It is not enough to simply start a Farm, however. Players also need to make sure to keep their bees happy if they want a consistent supply of Honey with which to make Mead. Here’s how to build a Honey Farm in Valheim and keep the bees happy.

How to Build a Honey Farm in Valheim

When players are exploring and come across an abandoned house, they may hear a faint buzzing coming from inside. This is a sign there is a beehive nearby. Players can try to melee the hive, but it is difficult to do this without being poisoned by bee stings. It is best to try to take it out with a bow and arrows. Players will get a little Honey and possibly a Queen Bee for their troubles.

Once the Queen Bee drops, players will unlock the crafting recipe for a beehive. This calls for 10 Wood and 1 Queen Bee. Players will need to craft their beehive at the Workbench and place it out in the open at their base with at least two meters of space around it on all sides like they do when they plant seeds. It may take some time for more bees to arrive, so players can instead prioritize other activities while they wait. Bees typically produce 1 or 2 Honey per day as long as they have their space.

Every beehive can generate up to 4 Honey, but the process takes time. Players may want to place several beehives at their base, which can allow them to harvest more Honey at a time. They will simply need to go into the world and find more active beehives. Beehives will usually spawn in abandoned houses in the Meadows, Black Forest, and Swamp biomes.

Players can craft a Cauldron and a Fermenter to start making Mead. They will need to combine Honey and foraged fruits, vegetables, and other consumables and cook it into a Mead Base. Then, the Mead Base will need to go inside a Fermenter for 2 in-game days. Each Mead Base requires about 10 Honey, and it will yield 6 Meads.
