How to Get the Master Sword Early in Zelda Breath of the Wild

In the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players can use a glitch to obtain the Master Sword at the beginning of the game with only three hearts. Normally, the Master Sword requires at least thirteen hearts to be able to acquire. Hearts are increased by completing difficult shrines and offering Spirit Orbs to Goddess Statues.

To reach the Master Sword, players will need to travel to Korok Forest. There is a puzzle for getting into the forest where players will need to find their way through dense fog using a torch and the wind direction. Use the torch to determine the right direction by following the way the flame is blowing. Once through the fog, players will be in the Korok Forest where they can grab the Master Sword or exchange hard-to-find Korok Seeds for additional inventory slots.

Link can go for the Master Sword right away after either beating or skipping the Great Plateau in BOTW. Before heading to the Korok Forest, players should gather the items needed to build a campfire. Link will need to have a bundle of wood and either a flame weapon or flint and a metal weapon in his inventory. Complete the Lost Woods puzzle and approach the sword to get started.

Getting the Master Sword with Three Hearts in Zelda: BOTW

For Breath of the Wild players looking to get to the sword quickly, a well-aimed bullet time bounce glitch or stasis glitch can let players skip the Lost Woods area. Upon reaching the sword, players will need to build a campfire on the left of the sword close to it. The fire should be close enough so Link can interact with it or the sword from the same spot depending on the direction he’s facing.

Next, players will need to focus the camera towards the sky looking at the Cherry Blossom tree. Interact with the campfire and wait until morning, then mash the interact button (A) to grab the Master Sword as the campfire action concludes. Link will take the sword without having to drain his health and complete the trial. Players will be able to leave with the sword from there and continue playing through the game.

If Link doesn’t pick up the sword, players can try again by repeating the process of looking up and triggering the campfire action. If it still doesn’t work, it’s likely the campfire isn’t placed close enough to the Master Sword. In that case, create a new campfire, and attempt the glitch once more. Getting the Master Sword early is one of many glitches discovered in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
