How Venom Can Kill The MCUs Sokovia Accords For Good

With Venom having a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it can finally kill the Sokovia Accords for good – here’s how. Marvel’s superheroes have been scattered through many studios for years, and while Disney now owns a big part of them and has made many a part of the MCU, there are some that still live under Sony’s roof – in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters – as is the case of Venom.

After a rough debut in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, the symbiote was given another chance and alongside Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) starred in his own movie. Simply titled Venom, the movie was released in 2018 and was directed by Ruben Fleischer, and was the movie that kickstarted Sony’s universe of Marvel characters. Although it wasn’t well-received by critics, it was a success with viewers and a box office hit, allowing it to continue with a sequel titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, set to be released in 2021. Thanks to Morbius, it was confirmed that Sony’s characters and the ones from the MCU can coexist, though that doesn’t mean they will cross paths in the immediate future, but it can still happen.

Venom’s presence in the MCU could not only make the long-awaited crossover with Spider-Man possible but it would also bring new concepts and more to the biggest connected universe of superheroes there is. Most importantly, Venom can effectively kill the Sokovia Accords for good, which haven’t really worked out as planned so far. The Sokovia Accords are a set of legal documents designed to regulate the activities of superheroes, specifically those working for agencies like S.H.I.E.L.D. or private organizations like the Avengers. The Accords were created as a result of the Battle of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and were introduced in Captain America: Civil War, serving as a trigger of the conflict between Team Iron Man and Team Captain America, as Tony Stark supported the Accords due to his involvement in the creation of Ultron, while Steve Rogers wasn’t on board with the authoritarian nature of the Accords.

Among the regulations in the Sokovia Accords are that “enhanced individuals” have to register with the United Nations and provide biometric data, reveal their legal names and true identities, and those who sign are not allowed to take action in any country other than their own unless given clearance by that country’s government or a United Nations subcommittee, while those who refuse to sign can’t take part in any activities. Now, in a scenario where symbiotes and other alien monsters who can easily take over a human body can fall from the sky at any time, the government would be forced to accept that there are situations where there’s no time to follow the Accords’ regulations and superheroes have to act immediately, thus finally killing the Accords for good.

The MCU has already seen emergency situations like those and involving bigger threats as happened in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, yet the Accords are still in effect, so maybe the menace of symbiotes and what they can do to humans could be the one event that finally puts an end to the Accords. Venom can have a bigger impact on the MCU than simply making the crossover with Spider-Man possible, and the MCU and its heroes can finally get rid of the problematic Sokovia Accords.
