How Watch Dogs Legion Connects to Assassins Creed

Ubisoft might be on its way to creating an interconnected games universe with an update coming to Watch Dogs: Legion later this year. As part of the game’s season pass, players will eventually have access to a character who is a member of the Assassin Order, unequivocally connecting the Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed franchises.

While the Assassin’s Creed games are largely set in the past, with settings ranging from Ancient Greece to the French Revolution, they have always been connected by a modern day storyline. In most of the Assassin Creed games, the characters in the modern day section are often using a device known as an Animus to tap into memories of their ancestors in order to locate information that has been lost to time. This information is almost always in service of furthering the war between the Assassins and the Templar Order, a war that has existed for thousands of years. Most recently, the Templar Order has taken the shape of tech company Abstergo.

Ubisoft first teased a connection between Watch Dogs: Legion and Assassin’s Creed when a screen shot of various recruitable NPCs in Watch Dogs: Legion revealed one NPC was a “Descendant of Jacob Frye.” Jacob Frye was one of the lead characters of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, a game which was set in nineteenth century London (Watch Dogs: Legion is set in a near future London). At the time, it seemed like an Easter egg and nothing more. Now, Ubisoft has announced that as part of the season pass for Watch Dogs: Legion, a character who is part of the Assassin Order will be a playable character. Not much is known about the character other than the fact that her name is Darcy and that she uses the famed Hidden Blade of the Assassin Order.

Could DedSec and the Assassins Team Up in Watch Dogs: Legion?

It’s one thing for Ubisoft to include an Easter egg that nods in the direction of another of their franchises. It’s something else entirely for Ubisoft to include a fully fleshed out character, definitively linking the two series together. With this Watch Dogs: Legion DLC, Ubisoft is acknowledging that the two series take place in the same universe, which could have interesting implications going forward. Abstergo, the front for the modern day Templar Order, has been at the cutting edge of technology for a while now. Could there be a scenario where DedSec and the Assassins team up to take on the sinister company?

Darcy has been labeled as a “hero character” that is included in the Watch Dogs: Legion season pass. Whether she will get her own set of missions like fellow hero character Aiden Pearce, or if she is simply a pre-built NPC that players have the option of controlling, has not been clarified. But players who prefer subtle executions to flashy front door assaults will have another tool at their disposal when the season pass for Watch Dogs: Legion releases later this year.
