Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

There are a lot of characters in the world of The Hunger Games. From the huge list of disposable children who have to go into battle for their districts, to those rebelling against the Capitol, to the corrupt dystopian government at the head of it all.

Many of these characters got the ending they deserved, but a few ended up meeting a fate that either didn’t match how much we liked them, or didn’t match how great they were.

10 FITTING ENDING: Katniss Everdeen

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Katniss Everdeen pretty much got the only ending she could ever really get. The leader of the rebellion against the Capitol in a series of teen novels; there isn’t exactly going to be a major twist there.

She successfully led the rebellion and survived it all, allowing her to return to a somewhat normal, happy existence afterward.

9 DESERVED MORE: Finnick Odair

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Finnick is first introduced as quite an arrogant, hard to like character. However, we quickly find out that most of his actions are built on his love for Annie Cresta and his desire to bring down the oppressive government that kept them apart.

He may die a hero’s death as he is savaged by Muttations in the tunnels of the Capitol, but it’s still heart-breaking.

8 FITTING ENDING: Haymitch Abernathy

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Honestly, the only way Haymitch could have had a fitting ending is if he didn’t die. Luckily for us, he didn’t die. He was front and center of the rebellion, and despite his problems with drinking, we could tell that he cared about the cause.

After the Capitol was brought down, he returned to his home district, and apparently raised geese.

7 DESERVED MORE: Mags

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

The oldest character in the series and the oldest survivor of a Hunger Games ended up volunteering to go into the 3rd Quarter Quell herself.

She might be the only one to have lived a full and complete life, but it’s still hard to watch when she sacrifices herself for the group.

6 FITTING ENDING: President Snow

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

An evil man sitting at the top of a huge pyramid of cruelty and oppression, President Snow eventually had to die.

When he was about to be executed by Katniss, she ended up having a change of heart and attempted to spare the white-haired old man, but he was soon crushed to death. His evil intentions meant we were quite happy with this more painful death, but we sort of wanted to see Katniss do it.

5 DESERVED MORE: Gale Hawthorne

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Gale might not have died, but he spent the entire series being made second best to Peeta. Gale and Katniss were obviously the two characters who shared a genuine connection, and Katniss’ complete inability to choose between the two meant Gale was waiting on her for years.

The franchise ends with him moving to District 2, while Katniss and Peeta are together. Boo!

4 FITTING ENDING: Alma Coin

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Coin is first introduced as the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol. She seems like a stony-faced yet strong leader who was able to gather a band of rebels strong enough to take down their oppressive overlords.

However, the dramatic twist comes when she tries to take control in much the same way as Snow did, and is revealed to be the cause of Prim’s death. It’s satisfying to see Katniss put a direct end to her twisted plans.

3 DESERVED MORE: Rue

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

Possibly the most well-known and infamous death in the Hunger Games franchise is that of the innocent Rue.

Katniss barely knew her, but she had taken her under her wing both before and inside the games. Seeing her killed and watching her die in Katniss’ arms is a cruel end.

2 FITTING ENDING: Effie Trinket

Hunger Games 5 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 5 Who Deserved More)

One of the only people from the Capitol who seemed genuinely kind and caring, Effie ended up (if mostly accidentally) as a major part of the rebellion. She lost all of her makeup and fancy clothing and had to work her way from the bottom like everyone else around her.

By the end of the series, her aesthetic had returned, but she was one of the very few surviving Games Escorts who had truly supported the rebellion.

1 DESERVED MORE: Cinna

Cinna was one of the best characters in the franchise. Flamboyant, kind and clever, he knew exactly what to do to make the incredibly easy-to-hate Katniss into someone strangely likable. The Capitol knew about their connection and had him killed just before she entered the Quarter Quell as a threat and a warning.

His end was brutal, harsh and unnecessary, and it meant we didn’t get to see any more from such a great character in Mockingjay.
