I Am Jazz Everything To Know About Jazzs Grandparents

TLC viewers have watched Jazz Jennings from I Am Jazz share her story of transitioning all while maneuvering the everyday life of being a teenager, and many have wanted to know more about her family, especially her grandparents. Jazz has had an amazing support system at home. Followers of the show would like to learn about her elders and how they help Jazz on a day-to-day basis.

Jazz has made a name for herself thanks to her bravery when it comes to speaking out for the LGBTQ community. She was recently accepted to an Ivy League school but decided to take a gap year instead since she was struggling with her mental health. Jazz’s past year has been challenging as she graduated high school, had a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend (who viewers met on season 5 of her show), and had her gender affirmation surgery. Through the pandemic, she gave in to her binge eating and gained weight that she is now trying to lose. The newest season will show Jazz’s entire family lending support.

Jazz’s grandparents, Grandpa Jack and Grandma Jacky, had been featured on the show since its inception back in 2015. The loving grandparents have never lacked support when it came to their granddaughter. Viewers will recall Grandpa Jack and his grandson, Griffen Jennings, dressed in drag for an LGBTQ fundraiser. Jack, who is a doctor, told cameras, “Let me tell you, we all have a little bit of the opposite sex in us.” While Jazz and her grandparents have a solid foundation, the activist hasn’t always agreed with her grandfather’s strong opinions.

In 2017, Jazz and Jack sat down to speak with members of the trans community. During the conversation, an audience participant revealed how he was born female, but he didn’t feel like a woman because he was nervous about taking hormones. At the time, Jack couldn’t understand how the man could identify as a woman saying, “I can’t imagine how one could go through a transition without the appropriated hormones.” The retort led to a small disagreement as Jazz bluntly told the audience she did not agree with her grandfather’s take on the subject.

In a recent episode of I Am Jazz, Jazz’s grandmother, Jacky, opened up about her childhood, telling her granddaughter her parents wouldn’t allow her to be overweight as a child. Jacky revealed she was given uppers in order to stay thin. The moment bonded the two as Jazz is currently struggling with her weight. It is wonderful to see Jazz’s grandparents support her and offer words of encouragement. Viewers hope to see them for years to come on the show.
