In a move that solidifies the show’s fast-paced progress, the iCarly revival is eyeing a summer launch after adding two new characters. One of the most popular teen sitcoms in TV history, the original iCarly regularly broke viewership records during its six-season run from 2007 – 2012. The pop-culture staple was led by Miranda Cosgrove, who had jumped from another hit Nickelodeon series, Drake & Josh, to headline her own show. During its initial run, iCarly revolved around the eponymous show that Cosgrove’s Carly created with her friends, Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress), in the apartment loft she shared with her brother, Spencer (Jerry Trainor). Besides the webcast, iCarly also followed the main characters through their everyday problems as they hilariously attempted to balance their normal teenage lives with the overwhelming popularity of their web show.

In December, news broke out that an iCarly revival was in the works at Paramount+, with Cosgrove, Trainor, and Kress attached to reprise their original roles. It was also announced that original creator, Dan Schneider, won’t be involved in the reboot in any capacity. Additionally, McCurdy stated that she wouldn’t return for the revival either, as she felt embarrassed and unfulfilled by the roles she played in her career. Nevertheless, despite Schneider and McCurdy’s absence, the revival has been making significant progress. And now, there are some updates about the show’s casting and production as well.

As announced by Deadline on Thursday, Paramount+’s iCarly revival has already commenced production in Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, the show is reportedly eyeing a summer premiere date on the rebranded streaming service. In the revival, Cosgrove, Kress, and Trainor will be joined by Insecure alum Laci Mosley, and Black-ish’s Jaidyn Triplett. Mosley will play Harper, Carly’s roommate, and best friend. Triplett, meanwhile, will star as Millicent, Freddie’s sarcastic stepdaughter, who is an avid social media user.

It has also been reported that the inaugural season of the teen sitcom’s reboot will consist of 13 episodes, and it will take place ten years after the original series finale. The new show will find the main characters in their twenties, focusing on their professional, romantic, and family lives. A summer premiere date is clearly exciting news for fans and Paramount+ subscribers who had expected the show to launch by late 2021 or even early 2022. The recent success of iCarly’s streaming runs on Netflix and Paramount+ has indicated that the show’s rabid fanbase is desperately craving for more content. So an early premiere would really help boost the hype around the show, while satisfying enthusiasts anxiously awaiting the revival’s launch.

For those who grew up watching iCarly, a revival featuring original cast members is no short of a dream come true. But while there’s a lot that remains intact, there are certainly a few key changes that fans will have to adjust to. At the moment, fans are quite dejected over Sam’s absence in the show. But with new cast additions diversifying the show’s storylines, it’s only a matter of time before fans get over their Sam blues and warm up to a new generation of iCarly characters.
