What would happen if characters from HBO’s Insecure were to put on the Sorting Hat? What house would Molly, Issa, and others be sorted into? Just like the four Hogwarts houses prioritize different values and personality traits, so do Insecure characters have their own distinct ways of navigating the world.

Not only is Insecure one of the few shows that do representation right, but it also has amazing characterization. Therefore, it’s fairly easy to make assumptions about which Hogwarts house each character belongs to, from the passionate Gryffindor to the ambitious Slytherin.

10 Frida: Hufflepuff

Issa’s co-worker Frida was driven by fairness and justice, which makes her a Hufflepuff member. While Issa was willing to look the other way when a headmaster was being discriminatory towards Latino students, Frida firmly stood her ground.

Additionally, Frida is the kind of person who always shows up for her loved ones and accepts them just the way they are.

9 Daniel: Gryffindor

Daniel King, Issa’s ‘what if’ guy, yanked Issa out of her stagnant relationship in season 1. No wonder: he comes across as chivalrous, passionate, and blunt. Because he doesn’t plan for the future and goes with the flow, he would be sorted into Gryffindor.

Just like Gryffindor members, Daniel tends to be unpredictable. From showing up unexpectedly at Issa’s event to hooking up with somebody just to spite her, he also personifies the house’s negative personality traits.

8 Tasha: Hufflepuff

Tasha, Lawrence’s rebound girl, was kind, loving, and genuine, which makes her a Hufflepuff. When she was dating Lawrence, she took care of him by cooking his meals and lending him her ear.

Tasha saw the best in Lawrence and appreciated that he was a hard worker like herself. But that doesn’t mean that Tasha was somebody who was easily taken advantage of. As soon as she realized that Lawrence wasn’t willing to commit, she sent him packing.

7 Nathan: Ravenclaw

As one of the most introverted characters on Insecure, Nathan would be sorted into Ravenclaw. Much to Issa’s dismay, this man is somewhat removed from reality.

He’s an incredible listener and a witty observer, though. Nathan is also the kind of person who enjoys his independence and appreciates creative endeavors.

6 Condola: Gryffindor

When Issa first met Condola, they instantly clicked. They shared the same passionate and idealistic worldview and soon started collaborating on Issa’s block party. None of it would be possible without Condola’s Gryffindor personality! Not only is she highly pragmatical, but she’s also stubborn when her eyes are on the prize.

Especially when it comes to her private life, she tends to be quite reckless. The most glaring example of that would be the fact that she essentially used Lawrence to get pregnant without considering his side of the story. She did, however, always come across as incredibly honest, brave, and straightforward.

5 Tiffany: Slytherin

The Sorting Hat has said of the Slytherins that these “cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends”. They always think before they act. Similarly, Tiffany’s confidence is quiet and she effortlessly asserts herself as the leader of her friend group when she wants to. It seems as if she’s always put together.

The only exception to the rule would be the time in season 4 when she chose to run away after having a baby. It’s not just her personality traits that make Mrs. DuBois belong to Slytherin. She’s also deeply devoted to her husband, much like Snape was to Lily.

4 Kelli: Ravenclaw

Kelli, one of the most likable Insecure characters, personifies textbook Ravenclaw traits. Sure, she’s loud and messy, but behind that persona hides somebody fiercely independent, intelligent, and organized.

When Issa came into her office to discuss her credit score, Kelli radiated pure Ravenclaw energy. She doesn’t rely on anybody. She’s perfectly fine with amusing herself and remaining rather emotionally distant from other people.

3 Issa: Gryffindor

If Issa were to put on the Sorting Hat, she’d become a Gryffindor. No matter what obstacles life throws at her, Issa manages to get by.

Practical, passionate, and incredibly funny, she is all about living in the moment. From making the best out of a lousy living situation to quitting her job on a whim, she embodies the very best Gryffindor personality traits.

2 Lawrence: Hufflepuff

It took Lawrence a little while to live up to his potential, but when he did, he turned out to be a Hufflepuff. Hard-working, modest, honest, and loyal, he remains one of Issa’s best romantic interests. His loyalty is not to be taken for granted, though. As soon as he found out Issa cheated on him, he broke up with her and refused to give her another chance.

In terms of zodiac signs, Lawrence is without a doubt an earth sign. And since Hufflepuff represents the earth as well, that only further confirms that Lawrence belongs to the house of badgers.

1 Molly: Slytherin

Molly embodies the very best Slytherin personality traits: ambition, determination, and charm. She is one of the most driven characters in the entire show and is always pursuing some sort of a professional goal.

Her fashion sense screams Slytherin: she looks as if she’s ready to take on the entire world. Molly also has a perfectionist streak and has no qualms with asserting herself whenever she feels threatened.
