Nolan Grayson, The Omni-Man, like most Superman equivalents sits at the peak of his superhero community. His powers represent an idealism that people want in their protector; strong, unbeatable, and always there whenever you need them. However, Nolan’s powers differ from characters like Superman, Homelander, or even The Utopian in that as the Robert Kirkman comic progresses, the limits and full capabilities of his powers become apparent.

The further you read into the Viltrumite/Coalition war in the Invincible comic, fans learn what life is truly like in a society filled with people like Nolan by immersing the reader in the inner workings of the Viltrumite society.

10 He Is Not Superman

Despite being a Superman copy, Nolan’s powers actually begin to differ further and further from the icon as the comic goes on. For one, Nolan’s powers do not have a source. The incredible strength, speed, invulnerability, and flight all seem to be naturally occurring abilities. He does not require the power of a yellow sun and is not weak to the radiation of any substances. Unlike Superman, he does not possess any heat vision, breath powers, or telescopic vision. However, without the charge of solar energy, Nolan’s powers have a definitive limit.

9 He Hid His Actual Power Level From The People Of Earth

In order to gain the trust of the people of Earth, Nolan chose to become a ‘superhero’ and act as their protector. To achieve this, he had to actively limit his powers so as not to seem frightening. The comic shows that Nolan is fully capable of beheading people with one swift chop to the neck. To act as the Earth’s protector he made the choice to actively suppress his powers and instincts when fighting opponents. He would not allow himself to kill, so he had to pull his punches and subdue villains instead.

8 He Is Not Indestructible

While he and other Viltrumites often like to spread the message that the Viltrumites are completely indestructible, this is not true. Viltrumites have many weaknesses. Nolan isn’t even close to being the strongest. In his attempt to conqueror Earth, Nolan asserted his presence and created the image that he was unstoppable. Nolan like most Viltrumites uses his physical force to create the illusion that they are invincible and scare their opponents into submission. This is to prevent anyone from battling the race and discovering their weaknesses.

7 Viltrumites Are Weak To Sound

The US Government spent years trying to find a weakness for Omni-Man in the scenario that he ever went rogue. It seemed that every weapon had no effect. So instead, they decided to focus less on the physical front and tried other tactics. Knowing that Viltrumites have incredibly strong hearing, Cecil developed an earpiece that could release a powerful high-pitched sound. It was first used on Nolan’s son, Mark, and found to be incredibly effective. Despite being incredibly resilient against physical force, Viltrumites can have their own powers weaponized against them.

6 Nolan Is Very Vulnerable To Viruses

It is revealed late into the comic that the Viltrumite race was nearly wiped out by the Scourge Virus, leaving only fifty remaining. Not only could it kill many of those infected, but those who survived had their powers removed for a period of time, leaving Nolan and his entire race are very susceptible to non-physical dangers.

While they can resist most forms of weapon, they are powerless to any threat that they cannot directly fight. While they have conquered most forms of warfare, biological warfare is their primary weakness.

5 The Void Of Space Offers Little Challenge

Viltrumites can travel between planets simply by flying. Not only can they hold their breaths for a very long time, but the actual environment of space has no effect on them. Over a dozen Vultrumites fought in the orbit of planet Viltrumite and the only issue anyone faced was holding their breath long enough. Nolan was able to leave Earth’s solar system without stopping on another world for air. It is to be believed he flew all the way to Thraxa in one go. For reference, Thraxa is a planet that doesn’t appear anywhere in Earth’s records.

4 Nolan Is Remarkably Fast

Nolan’s strength is often his most well-known ability. His physical might is what is used most throughout the comics. However, another lesser-known ability is his speed. Not only is Nolan capable of traversing the Earth in a matter of seconds, he is able to cross the vacuum of space incredibly quickly. There are several instances where Nolan has traversed between planets by only flying, with no major gap in time. He was able to completely exit the solar system in a matter of seconds and completely vanish from any radar.

3 He Is More Powerful Than Any Other Super On Earth

The most powerful heroes on the planet, the Guardians of the Globe, were all gathered in one room, and within a matter of seconds, Nolan killed all of them. On Earth, there are a number of supers who greatly outmatch any regular citizen, but Nolan supersedes all of them.

There is no superhuman human on Earth who has ever come close to Nolan’s level of power besides his sons, Mark and Oliver. This made securing his position as the most powerful being on the planet very easy.

2 Viltrumites Are Not As Invincible As They Want Everyone To Believe

Viltrumites have put an immense amount of work into their propaganda to ensure everyone believes that they are undefeatable. However, scattered throughout the galaxy are a variety of weapons, species, and elements that not only exploit Viltrumite weaknesses but can easily overpower a Viltrumite. Even their own DNA can be weaponized against them, after the Viltrumite Thaedus left his people and formed the Coalition of Planets he developed the Scourge Virus, which led to the greatest tragedy the Viltrumite people ever faced, wiping out 99.9% of the total population.

1 He Is Rather Low On The Viltrumite Food Chain

The most horrifying tidbit of information to learn from the Invincible comic is that Nolan is just a foot soldier. He is one of many Viltrumite agents sent to conquer a planet. Above him are ranks upon ranks of Viltrumites who are stronger and far more experienced. Despite their population being at an all-time low, that only left the strongest alive to reform the society. On the planet Thraxa, it is shown that Nolan can be quickly subdued by two, or more Viltrumites. And this doesn’t even include figures such as Conquest and Thragg.
