Iron Man Fans Deserve to See His Ancient Egyptian Armor in Action

An Iron Man variant cover depicts an ancient Egyptian armor that fans deserve to see in action. The cover is by Adi Granov and from Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7. Debuting in 2009, the ten-issue series was written by Gregg Hurwitz.

The cover is actually part of a larger variant series titled Iron Man By Design that reimagines the character styled throughout various time periods. The covers spanned many titles across Marvel’s line of comics including but not limited to New Mutants, Nova, Wolverine, Amazing Spider-Man, and more. Iron Man doesn’t even appear in a majority of the issues. Ironically, in the case of Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7, Deadpool does, but the Iron Man armor plays no role in the story itself.

Most of the variant covers have practically nothing in common with the titles in which they’re featured. For instance, the cover to Daredevil #506 features a homage to Nikola Tesla. Some do, though. The cover to Captain America #605 has a World War II Iron Man. In the case of, Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7, the ancient Egyptian Iron Man is obviously in reference to Moon Knight’s origins and the ancient Egyptian god Khonshu.

Coincidentally, Iron Man has a villain called the Mad Pharaoh, who would be perfect for a story featuring this kind of armor. Appearing early on in Tales of Suspense #44, the Mad Pharaoh was originally a man named King Hatap who lived in ancient Egypt during Cleopatra’s reign. He was placed in suspended animation, woken up in modern times by Tony Stark. The Mad Pharaoh travels back in time to take revenge on Cleopatra, but Iron Man manages to stop him. The Mad Pharaoh is a villain that has mainly been forgotten, but if fans are ever going to see this amazing Iron Man armor in action, then perhaps it’s time for a resurrection.

Although none of the Iron Man by design variants were featured in actual stories, the ancient Egyptian armor is one that fans deserve to see in action. Adi Granov, whom many considered the premier Iron Man artist of the time, went above and beyond crafting the armor to make Iron Man appear Pharaoh-like. Since Tony already has a villain like The Mad Pharaoh lined up, it’s high time for fans to see Iron Man’s Egyptian armor in action.
