Is Scarface On Netflix Hulu Or Prime Where To Watch Online

Where can gangster classic Scarface be found online, and is it available on platforms like Netflix, Hulu or Prime? The film is a remake of the 1932 gangster movie from director Howard Hawks, and the new Scarface cast Al Pacino as a Cuban refugee who works – and shoots – his way up from the bottom of the Miami drug trade to become a crime lord. Despite living the good life for a time, his explosive temper and fragile ego gradually lead his dreams to crumble, resulting in one of the most famous shootouts in movie history.

While the Al Pacino Scarface is widely regarded as a classic now, it met with mixed reviews at the time. It was accused of racial stereotypes in regards to its portrayal of the Cuban community, and was criticized for what many critics felt was excess swearing and bloodshed. A scene where one of Tony’s friends is dismembered with a chainsaw – occurring mostly off-camera – was also hugely controversial. Time has been kind to the gangster epic though, and it had a huge influence on the gangster movie genre, hip hop music and video games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

There are plenty of options available to watch Scarface online, though it’s not currently available on Netflix, Hulu or Prime. Instead, it can be rented or purchased from services like iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Redbox and YouTube. Rentals prices start from $3.99 while it can be purchased from $14.99.

Given the way Scarface 1983 ends, it’s not much of a surprise a sequel never happened. That said, a video game sequel dubbed Scarface: The World Is Yours arrived on platforms like the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2006. While Al Pacino loaned his likeness to the game, he didn’t voice Tony as it was thought his own voice had changed too much in the intervening years between the film and game. The story provides a “what if?” alternate ending, opening with Tony actually surviving the movie’s apocalyptic gunfight before having to rebuild his empire from scratch.

While a Scarface sequel is extremely unlikely, a planned remake has spent years in development hell. Writers like David Ayer and Terence Winter have taken cracks at penning it, while Antonie Fuqua was once set to helm. The project is currently looking to be in good shape, with no less than the Coen Brothers having penned the latest draft, while Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria) is signed to direct. The title character hasn’t currently been cast, however.
