Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia Duos Ranked From Worst To Best

With It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia recently renewed for four more seasons at FX, viewers can rest assured knowing there are plenty more episodes of the sitcom to come. The series has always had a decent amount of reoccurring cast members, but most episodes focus on Dennis, Dee, Mac, Frank, and Charlie, the main characters who work at and own Patty’s Pub.

The group dynamic provides plenty of opportunities for comedy, yet in some of the more preeminent episodes, they find themselves breaking off in opposite directions. When the characters separate into duos they’re provided with more opportunities to play off of each other and highlight their over-the-top personalities. Whether it’s because they clash horribly or get along perfectly, some of the pairs are more entertaining than others.

10 Mac And Dee

Despite the actors being married in real life, Mac and Dee probably have the least amount of one-on-one time out of all the duos. It’s particularly ironic because their characters have absolutely no on-screen chemistry. If anything, it’s simply a testament to how good the actors are at their craft. When Mac and Dee do end up sharing a storyline, it’s usually a good one. Their water slide conundrum on “The Gang Goes to The Water Park,” is a scene that will never be forgotten by fans.

9 Dennis And Frank

Frank did raise him, but he and Dennis have never acted like father and son. As they found out early in the series, Dennis and Dee’s mom cheated on Frank and let him believe they were his kids. However, it would be a lie to say that’s why the two of them have so much animosity towards each other. They’re both just horrible people who don’t click. They have their fair share of comedic moments, but their interactions aren’t nearly as funny as the ones they have with the rest of the gang.

8 Frank And Mac

Technically, Mac was the only member of the gang not related to Frank in some way. When Frank adopted Mac so they could all compete on the game show, “Family Fight” that tidbit became null and void.

The two don’t go out of their way to form an alliance, but if they happen to be on the same side of a scheme they’ll go with the flow. Even though Mac can be just as insane as Frank, he’s usually the one who ends up talking Frank out of doing something. Every relationship needs that person who points out how ridiculous the other is being.

7 Charlie And Dennis

Neither Charlie nor Dennis are as close with each other as they are with Mac, but that’s part of what makes their relationship so fun to watch. Dennis gets jealous when Charlie and Mac spend alone time together, and it leads to conflict and chaos. Dennis sees himself as superior to everyone and sees Charlie, especially, as below him. Because of this, Dennis often bosses Charlie around at Patty’s Pub, and forces him to do downright degrading and dangerous tasks, which the gang calls “Charlie Work.”

6 Frank And Dee

Most fathers are protective of their daughters, but that’s never been the case for Frank and Dee. Frank relishes in his daughter’s misery and calls her “bird” along with the rest of the gang. In fact, it’s hard to believe that Frank ever raised Dee because of how badly he treats her. He had no problem pretending to be her boyfriend and almost had sex with her to get money out of Dee’s biological father. They went as far as hosting a fake wedding in front of him to sell their story, which made their father-daughter relationship even more deranged.

5 Dee And Charlie

Dee and Charlie are the only two members of the gang who have hooked up. Much to viewers’ satisfaction, the fling didn’t last for long. But, their brief sexual relationship aside, Dee and Charlie have one hell of a dynamic.

Charlie bullies her like the rest of the gang, but Dee and Charlie usually end up in the most priceless situations together. They once worried they were cannibals and they even briefly took over the gaming world.

4 Charlie And Mac

Two heads are better than one, except in Mac and Charlie’s case. When one of them comes up with a messed up scheme, the other somehow finds a way to make it worse. They feed off of each other’s horrible ideas and consistently end up in the worst-case scenario. From being trapped in the bottom of an empty pool they tried to clean, to faking their deaths to escape the vengeance of Mac’s dad, there’s never a dull moment when they’re together.

3 Dennis And Dee

The Reynold twins are the most chaotic siblings on television. The way they treat each other goes far past typical family bickering and borders on abuse. They’re extremely toxic people on their own, so when they’re together they’re downright sinister. Even though they hate each other more often than not, they know each other very well. Dennis and Dee are all too similar and it’s clear they wouldn’t be able to survive without each other. Their antics are one of the most entertaining aspects of the series.

2 Frank And Charlie

Frank latched onto Charlie the moment he came to visit Dee and Dennis after his divorce. It’s hard to comprehend why a multi-millionaire wants to live in a filthy one-room apartment and share a bed and pee bucket with a man twenty years younger than him, but, in their words, “it’s a comfort thing.” They also invent a bedtime game where they both crawl under the sheets pretending to be worms. Charlie is most likely Frank’s biological son, which makes their intimate relationship oddly hysterical.

1 Mac And Dennis

Mac and Dennis, or as shippers call them, MacDennis, is clearly the fan-favorite pairing. Viewers aren’t wrong for seeing something between the two, as the show often teases the possibility of them romantically. The series goes out of its way to make Mac’s love for Dennis clear. They act like a married couple, they’re co-dependent, and the most comical episodes usually revolve around them. In a way, it’s kind of sweet that two people who don’t care about anyone other than themselves have a soft spot for each other.
