Jennifer Lawrence Prepping #MeToo Documentary Series

Jennifer Lawrence is reportedly working on a #MeToo documentary series that tackles the various issues in Hollywood, including gender pay gaps and rampant sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.

More recently, news broke out that the Oscar-nominated actress was planning to take a break from acting to focus on her activism as she partners up with Represent.Us – an organization that urges young people to politically and socially engaged. While the hiatus portion of the news was belatedly retracted by her representative, explaining that Lawrence is ready to return to work once her future projects enter production, she will continue to further her causes. Presumably, that means getting a #MeToo documentary series off the ground.

THR reports that Jennifer Lawrence is teaming up with former E! anchor, Catt Sadler, for a new documentary series that would focus on the #MeToo and Time’s Up movement, as well as the gender wage gap. Award-winning documentary film director Stephanie Soechtig is said to be the helming the series. No studio is attached to the project yet, but considering the people behind the new venture as well as the subject material, they shouldn’t have a difficult time finding a suitable distributor.

Lawrence has been championing women’s right in Hollywood for years now. Most recently, she’s openly discussed the pay gap in the industry between men and women, citing her experience in American Hustle, in which she starred opposite Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, and Amy Adams. She has also been involved in various causes, such as funding for Planned Parenthood, same-sex marriage, and body-positivity for women. She’s also been very open in chastising disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein and other sexual predators who have been outed in the midst of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. Now, she’s taking her activism to a whole new level by shepherding the aforementioned documentary, as it could better educate and empower women who may still be struggling to find the courage to stand up for their rights.

Sadler, on the other hand, has famously decided to suddenly exit her regular hosting gig at E! after learning that she is paid significantly less than her co-anchor, Jason Kennedy, despite the fact that they have identical jobs. Because of that, she instantly becoming an idol for the gender pay gap cause. That said, it seems like there was no bad blood between the former co-hosts after Sadler’s decision to leave, as they appeared one last time together on E! News, with Kennedy even documenting emotional, behind-the-scenes snippets of their final show. She was lauded by a lot of her peers, including Lawrence, so it makes sense that the two are teaming up to further these causes.

Accidental movie fan who is perpetually curious, Ana rekindled her love for writing several years back and married it with everything pop culture. The result is a passionate young writer who could ramble (and of course, pen) about films and series multiple hours a day. She has a soft spot for The Lion King, old songs, and home design; is currently obsessed with old sitcoms (The Golden Girls!); and won’t dare watch any horror films although she’s (ironically) dying to see one. Though a bit late to the party and was an actual Force non-believer, she now finds the Star Wars franchise quite fascinating (fun fact: it was a crazy Jar Jar Binks/Sith theory that drew her in).
