Eleven-year-old actress Joey King, who just landed a supporting role in The Dark Knight Rises, has been cast in Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, Variety reports.

She’ll play China Girl in the Sam Raimi-directed 3D prequel (of sorts) to The Wizard of Oz, which stars James Franco as a snake-oil salesman who’s carried by hot-air balloon to a magical land run by witches, where he’s treated like a wizard. Oz becomes a reluctant surrogate father to the porcelain child, whose family was destroyed by the wicked Evanora (Rachel Weisz).

The film, which is written by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Inkheart), also stars Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams. Production begins in July in Michigan for a March 8, 2013, release.

King, who’s best known as the co-star of Ramona and Beezus, recently appeared in Battle: Los Angeles.
