Warning! Spoilers for Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 by Marvel Comics
In Marvel’s Old Man Logan dark future, Juggernaut has taken on a new name that’s almost as fitting as his usual moniker. In a brand new preview for Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 by Marvel Comics, Clint Barton is ready to stop a villain named “Marco the Terrible” from terrorizing surrounding villages. However, he quickly learns the villain he is tasked with taking down is actually an older version of Juggernaut.
Juggernaut is one of the most powerful villains (and sometimes antihero) in Marvel Comics. With the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, Cain Marko was transformed into an unstoppable force of nature who was given superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. On top of that, Juggernaut has a mystical force field that keeps him protected against some of Marvel’s deadliest attacks while also being unable to be mentally attacked thanks to his dome-shaped helmet. Readers have yet to meet the Juggernaut in the dystopian Old Man Logan timeline until now, as an older Cain Marko makes himself known against Hawkeye.
In a world where most heroes have been wiped out and villains reign supreme across the Wastelands of the United States, Hawkeye is still active. Hawkeye’s journey continues in Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 by Ethan Sacks, Ibraim Roberson, Dijjo Lima, and VC’s Cory Petit. In the preview, Clint Barton arrives deep in the Wastelands, nearly five decades after the fall of the heroes. Old Man Hawkeye calls out Marco the Terrible, who he’s hired to stop, as the menace had been plundering gasoline from surrounding villages.
However, Marco the Terrible turns out to be a much more dangerous threat than initially believed, as he reveals himself to be the Juggernaut. However, this version of Cain Marko is old and struggles to move with the same grace as his younger self. Still, Marco the Terrible isn’t disrupted in the slightest after Hawkeye fires explosive arrows at him. Juggernaut ends up picking up a giant truck and hurling it at the former Avenger. Thankfully, Hawkeye dodges the attack.
Even in his old age and considerable wear on his body, the Juggernaut is still a dangerous presence in the Marvel Universe. In a timeline where heroes have mostly died, Juggernaut has taken on the new name of “Marco the Terrible,” which accurately describes the longtime villain. While it doesn’t have quite the same intimidating ring to it as Juggernaut, Marco the Terrible is a suitable replacement for a powerful force whose strength and body are starting to fail him. Readers can see the older Juggernaut in action when Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 comes to comic book stores on Wednesday.
