Teen TV had a big year in 2020, and one of the biggest teen shows was Netflix’s Julie and the Phantoms. Though the series has yet to get picked up for a second season, fans are devoted to the show and its titular rock band of made up of literal ghosts.

While Julie and the Phantoms doesn’t center on princesses, it does have a certain level of Disneyness to it. It features amazing original songs and great characters who support each other while defying the odds. In fact, many of the Julie and the Phantoms characters felt so Disney they might as well have Disney character counterparts.

10 Alex – Piglet

Alex (Owen Joyner) is the drummer of Sunset Curve and the newly formed Julie and the Phantoms band. Alex has the hardest time adjusting to their second chance and is full of anxiety about what their future can look like now.

Piglet is one of the best characters from Winnie the Pooh and definitely has the most in common with Alex. For one, both characters are very anxious, constantly worrying about their futures and their friends. They’re also both extremely supportive of their friends.

9 Caleb – Dr. Faciliar

Caleb (Cheyenne Jackson) is the resident villain in the Julie and the Phantoms universe. Like the boys, he is a ghost who walks among the living. He likes to be in control and be the center of attention at Hollywood Ghost Club, the club he owns.

Since Caleb is known to dabble with dark magic by cursing other ghosts, he is most like Dr. Faciliar from The Princess and the Frog. As the Shadow King, Dr. Faciliar is no stranger to dealing with spirits.

8 Carlos – Koda

Carlos (Sonny Bustamante) is Julie’s younger brother and the baby of the Molina house. Though he misses his mom, he seems to be coping better than Julie. Like all younger brothers, he’s mischievous and curious, but he’s also extremely supportive of his sister.

Koda is from Brother Bear, one of Disney’s most forgotten movies of all time. Like Carlos, Koda also lost his mom young and has been forced to grow up a bit. The two also share a penchant for fun that often gets them into trouble.

7 Carrie – Drizella

Carrie (Savannah Lee May) might not be a major villain in the show, but she is an antagonist in Julie’s life. Wealthy and full of herself, Carrie believes she’s destined for stardom. Unfortunately, she doesn’t let her talent speak for itself and instead regularly puts those around her down to make herself look better.

Like Carrie, Drizella from Cinderrla isn’t the main antagonist, but she is one for Cinderella. As one-half of Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, Drizella constantly puts Cinderella down and later becomes extremely jealous of her success.

6 Flynn – Timothy Q. Mouse

Not only is Flynn (Jadah Marie) a talented DJ, but she’s also an amazing friend to Julie. She sticks by Julie’s side through her tough times and constantly pushes her to get back into music. She even becomes the unofficial manager of Julie and the Phantoms once she warms up to the boys.

Like Flynn, Timothy Q. Mouse from Dumbo is an extremely supportive friend. When he meets Dumbo, he doesn’t make fun of him and instead becomes determined to turn the young elephant with the big ears into a star.

5 Julie – Elsa

Julie (Madison Reyes) has a lot going for her. She is intelligent, extremely talented, and an amazing friend. Unfortunately, she’s also struggling with the death of her mom. Thankfully, Julie begins to heal thanks to her love of music and her supportive family and friends.

Like Julie, Elsa also repressed her talent (or magical abilities in Elsa’s case), when her parents died. She became a shell of herself until Anna, along with the rest of Arendale, helped her see how special and amazing she truly is.

4 Luke – Jim Hawkins

Luke (Charlie Gillespie) is the lead singer of Sunset Curve and eventual co-lead singer in Julie and the Phantoms. He’s also an incredibly talented songwriter. However, Luke’s passion for music often gets him into trouble or leads him astray, as it did when he ran out on his parents.

Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet is a contender for one of Disney’s most underrated characters of all time. Like Luke, he doesn’t have the best relationship with his family and finds solace in his friends. Both characters are also extremely brave and adventurous, which often backfires on them.

3 Ray – Mufasa

When it comes to parents on teen shows, Ray (Carlos Ponce) is definitely in the running for the best dad. Though being a single father is extremely hard, Ray rises to the challenge. He wants nothing more than to see his children happy, even if it means moving the family to Australia.

Mufasa from The Lion King is one of the best dads in the Disney universe, which is why Ray and he have so much in common. Mufasa is such a great person that he’s blinded by his brother Scar’s troubling actions because he’s related to him. He also would do anything for his son, Simba, and is very involved in Simba’s upbringing while he’s alive.

2 Reggie – Goofy

Rounding out Sunset Curve/Julie and the Phantoms is Reggie (Jeremy Shada), the band’s bassist and occasional vocalist. Reggie is definitely the comic relief character of the band and is in tune with his more childish side. He also takes things literally, which often ends in him being confused.

Reggie and Goofy have a lot in common because of their childish nature and constant goofing around that gets them into trouble. Though they sometimes annoy their friends, they’re extremely loyal and would do anything to help a friend be happy.

1 Willie – Tigger

Willie (Booboo Stewart) is a member of Caleb’s cult of the undead and also ends up being Alex’s love interest on the show. His free spirit nature makes him a great friend. However, because Willie treats everything like fun and games, he sometimes doesn’t think of the consequences his actions can have.

Tigger from Winnie the Pooh is the perfect counterpart for Willie because he, too, loves to be energetic and spread the fun around. Though Tigger means well, he tends to mess things up, especially when it comes to Rabit’s beloved garden.
