Julie And The Phantoms Characters Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win The Hunger Games

In the world of Julie and the Phantoms, teenagers cut down in their prime get the chance to relive their dreams — so to speak — as ghosts. Those ghostly abilities don’t exist in The Hunger Games, though. If the two worlds somehow crossed, could Julie Molina and her friends survive?

Julie and the Phantoms certainly deals with some dark subjects, like death and grief, but it’s still a feel-good show that doesn’t get too violent. The characters would have a tough time when thrown into the Hunger Games arena to fight for their lives. Setting aside any ghostly abilities or magical chances at survival, they’d have to rely purely on their wits and personalities. Some of them are simply too nice to make it through, but others could definitely adapt to come out on top.

10 Nick

Julie And The Phantoms Characters Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win The Hunger Games

The Netflix series is dominated by characters with lots of creative talent and very big personalities. Nick gets overshadowed by most of those other characters. The audience can make a judgment on his ability to survive based on what they see of his relationship with Carrie in Julie and the Phantoms, though.

Nick goes with the flow when it comes to Carrie. They have an on-again, off-again relationship as Carrie makes it clear they’ve broken up before. He also doesn’t seem to have major issues with her tormenting Julie or getting snarky with Flynn. At the very least, Nick doesn’t stand up to Carrie in a way that anyone else gets to see. That means he’d likely try to stay under the radar in the arena, but that only works for so long. If he wasn’t willing to put up a fight, he would be eliminated pretty quickly.

9 Reggie

Reggie isn’t the most intelligent Julie and the Phantoms character (the rancid hotdogs that killed most of Sunset Curve didn’t alarm him at all). but that’s not actually why he ranks so low amongst potential winners of the Hunger Games. It’s because there isn’t a mean bone in Reggie’s body.

In order to win, compassion and empathy have to be put on hold. Reggie wouldn’t be able to do that as he thrives on his friendships. Conflict, even verbal conflict, makes him incredibly nervous. Putting him in an arena and telling him he’d have to kill his way out would just be cruel. Reggie might survive the initial bloodbath of the opening, but if he made friends, he wouldn’t be able to hurt them.

8 Carlos

Carlos is sneaky and smart — two advantages for someone younger placed in the games. He could likely get away with hiding from more experienced tributes for a while, but that doesn’t mean he’d outlast everyone.

For all his bravado while ghost hunting, Carlos scares pretty easily. He’s also sympathetic to others who are in a bind. Carlos not only tries to help his sister evade trouble for getting kicked out of the music program, but he also immediately decides to stop recording a potential ghost sighting when he realizes Julie wants to pass a message to their dead mother. Carlos cares about other people so much that he’d be easy fodder for a harder-edged tribute.

7 Kayla

Kayla is one of the only members of Dirty Candi to get speaking lines — or a name. She appears to be Carrie’s right-hand as she’s always by her side when watching the performances of others. It’s clear that if the two ended up in the arena together, Kayla would have a built-in alliance.

Unfortunately, that wouldn’t end well for her. While Carrie might be able to play up a performance for the cameras in the arena, she would also understand the need to be ruthless to survive. Carrie wouldn’t like it, but she would certainly sacrifice Kayla to stay alive.

6 Willie

Like Reggie, Willie gets a little nervous when faced with conflict. He also just wants to have a good time. Willie is something of a survivor seeing as how he makes sure to always keep Caleb happy enough to keep him around. In the world of the Hunger Games, Willie would likely be able to hold his own in the arena for a short time. The trouble would be if someone else he cared about ended up in there with them.

Willie feels so much guilt about getting Alex in contact with Caleb in Julie and the Phantoms that he puts his entire existence on the line to help Alex and his friends. If Willie felt that kind of guilt in the arena at all, he wouldn’t survive the Hunger Games because he’d likely sacrifice himself to save someone else.

5 Alex

As he repeatedly admits in the series, Alex is not good with change. Having to make the jump from the life he knows to fighting to survive in the arena would not be an easy adjustment for him. He also jokes about hiding behind Luke if he gets scared, which might not be something he can do in the arena when it’s every person for themselves.

That said, Alex does take a chance to stand up to Caleb, which means that when push comes to shove, he will stand up for himself and the people he cares about. It’s likely that at some point in the games, the pressure would become overwhelming for him, and without a friend to help or a place to think, Alex would be done.

4 Luke

At first glance, Luke is all about music. However, the truth is that Luke is all about emotional connections. He goes out of his way to make sure Alex and Reggie still feel like they have family in the band. He tries to respect Julie’s boundaries every time she tells him he’s crossed a line. Then, he puts his emotions out to the world in song. It would be hard to connect with a group of people out to kill him, though.

Luke would likely be aware that the games aren’t just taking place in the arena. He would know that there’s an audience out there who could hear him, which might lead to him getting a few sponsors charmed by his earnest approach. That would help him stay alive a little longer than most.

3 Julie

Julie is a likable character, so she would certainly earn herself some sponsors in the arena, but that doesn’t mean she’d win. Much like most of the characters who would be gone before her, Julie thinks a lot about others before herself. She wants to help a trio of ghosts achieve their rockstar dreams, after all.

Julie is very much a survivor. She’s someone who has gone through an intense period of grieving in her life and come out the other side. Her instincts would likely allow her to get pretty far in avoiding the fight. It’s when she’s confronted with the harsh reality of what she has to do in the games that Julie might hesitate, opting to protect those in her alliance before herself, which could cost her.

2 Carrie

While all of the Julie and the Phantoms characters appear to be from affluent neighborhoods, Carrie is the only one who has the kind of money to hire Katy Perry’s choreographer. That might not seem important in the Hunger Games, but it means that Carrie would be a character from a district closest to the Capitol. She’d have the best training money could buy for the off-chance that she wound up in the arena.

Carrie is one of the hardest-working characters in the show already. She also knows how to cultivate her image to present one personality to her fans. That all adds up to her going far in the arena and potentially winning the entire thing.

1 Flynn

If there’s anyone who could beat Carrie, it’s Flynn. She’s the character with the most common sense, the ability to read people, and has the business know-how to understand the real odds.

Flynn is the one person who would actually take stock of the competition, be practical about her alliances, and could rival Carrie in creating a persona for the cameras. Flynn is the one who got Julie and the Phantoms their first gigs, their name, and understood the reality of Luke and Julie’s potential relationship. She would understand exactly what she was getting herself into.
