Jurrassic World Dominion Will Follow Original Movie Cast In Own Plotline

Co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow reveals that Jurassic World: Dominion will follow the original movie’s cast in their own plotline. The latest installment in the sci-fi adventure franchise picks up four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in which the dinosaurs were released into the world. The threequel will see humanity struggling to find a way to coexist with the various dinosaur species around the world.

Jurassic World: Dominion will see the returns of sequel trilogy stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Omar Sy and Isabella Sermon as well as original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong. The cast will also feature franchise newcomers Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise and Campbell Scott, the latter of whom takes over the role of Dr. Lewis Dodgson from Cameron Thor in the original Jurassic Park film. Production on Jurassic World: Dominion has been a bit of a bumpy road due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, having initially begun in February 2020 and finally concluding in November after multiple shutdowns.

In a recent interview with Total Film to discuss the threequel, Trevorrow offered new details on the plot of Jurassic World: Dominion. The co-writer/director not only promised that Neill, Goldblum and Dern have “as much screen time” as the new franchise leads, but also teases that the film will follow the original movie trio in their own plotline. See what Trevorrow shared below:

“They’re not together the entire time, but we are following both of their stories equally, and you have a sense that they’re going to collide at a certain point. There’s this tension. It’s not structured necessarily in a way that we’re used to seeing our Hollywood movies structured. But it works.”

Though Trevorrow has confirmed the point before, it should come as a promising reassurance to audiences to hear that Jurassic World: Dominion will give far more screen time to the original Jurassic Park trio following Goldblum’s cameo-adjacent appearance in Fallen Kingdom. It is, however, interesting to learn that the returning stars will be getting their own plotline for the threequel separate from the Jurassic World leads. Given the film is expected to take place all around the world, it makes sense the group would not immediately be working together in the film.

The most interesting thing of note is Trevorrow’s tease that the original cast’s plot in Jurassic World: Dominion will lead up to a collision with the newer cast’s story in a tension-fueled way. The exact nature of both plots are currently unknown, though given the film will mark the final appearance of the original Jurassic Park stars in the franchise and producer Frank Marshall teasing the threequel marks the start of a new era for the series, one can hope this collision proves both satisfying and thrilling for longtime fans. Only time will tell when Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters on June 10, 2022.
