Kelly Marie Tran may best be known to audiences around the world for her work in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Rose Tico, and, more recently, as the voice actress for the latest Disney princess, Raya in Raya and the Last Dragon. Before either of those roles, Tran worked consistently in the world of comedy, especially in improvisational roles.

In recent years, after her breakout on the Hollywood scene in The Last Jedi, Tran has been working more and more in streaming television, as well as showing her talents in the world of voiceover acting, too.

10 Monsterland – 5.5

The Hulu horror anthology series Monsterland has received polarizing responses at best. But Kelly Marie Tran’s episode “Iron River, Michigan” is easily one of the struggling series’ strongest – and strangest – episodes.

In the episode, Tran portrays Lauren, a young woman who seems to have everything she wants in life – until flashbacks reveal that her best friend from her teenage years mysteriously vanished one night, and Lauren somehow inherited her life. Tran acts against type in this role, which allows her to have a darker edge than most of her projects.

9 The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special – 6.4

The Lego Star Wars properties are often some of the most fun and entertaining in the entire galaxy of works, and 2020’s The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is only further proof of that.

Though Rose doesn’t have a major role in the special, Tran returns to voice the character. Alongside fellow Resistance characters Finn, Poe, and Chewbacca, Rose takes part in preparing to celebrate Life Day, singing songs and decorating the Millennium Falcon.

8 Lego Star Wars: All-Stars – 6.5

Another fun Lego property released during the run of the sequel trilogy is the miniseries Lego Star Wars: All Stars, which aired as a series of shorts.

Tran is one of the only big Star Wars names to appear in the miniseries’ voice cast. She portrays Rose in two of the series’ episodes, “From Trenches to Wrenches: The Roger Story,” which focuses on a battle droid, and “Scouting for Leia/A Mission with Maz,” which features some other beloved legacy characters.

Although the original The Croods film was released all the way back in 2013, its sequel, The Croods: A New Age, had a long and winding journey to production, even being scrapped a few times along the way.

The sequel introduced new characters to the world of The Croods, including Kelly Marie Tran’s Dawn Betterman, a sheltered yet free-spirited young girl. In her brief role in the film, Dawn would become good friends with Emma Stone’s Eep Crood, as the two bonded over shared interests and life experiences.

In her breakout performance, Kelly Marie Tran stole every scene she was in as Resistance mechanic Rose Tico in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. Rose would play a major role in the film, going on an adventure to the casino planet of Canto Bight with Finn.

2 Sorry for Your Loss – 7.4

Before Elizabeth Olsen would be exploring life after loss in WandaVision, Olsen and Kelly Marie Tran would tread much of that familiar territory in the short-lived but highly acclaimed Facebook Watch series Sorry for Your Loss.

Tran played the deuteragonist in the series, Olsen’s adopted sister Jules Shaw, who was dealing with her own demons while trying to help her sister recover from the loss of her husband at such a young age. The series features some of Tran’s strongest work to date, and Tran and Olsen are perfect scene partners.

The highest-rated project on Tran’s IMDb filmography is one in which she only has a very minor role, but her appearances in the series are nonetheless enjoyable and showcase some of her comedic gift.

Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street is an Amazon Prime original children’s series, a fantasy series following a grou p of children and the otherworldly adventures they take. Tran appears in three episodes of the sitcom as Sara, a quirky young woman who sometimes gets caught up in their travels.
