Publisher THQ Nordic finally let loose details about the Fatesworn DLC for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, which is scheduled to release across all platforms this month. THQ Nordic and developer Kaiko Games previously teased the Fatesworn expansion with a quick look at the Gale Crossing locale back in September. At the time, the development crew had just wrapped the final stages of production on the new content. Now it seems Kingdoms of Amalur is ready to re-enter the spotlight.

Originally developed by Big Huge Studios and 38 Studios, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning hit store shelves in 2012 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, a few months after Skyrim rocked the industry. Despite its release timing, the RPG managed to leave an indelible mark of its own, thanks to inventive gameplay mechanics and a skill tree that truly impacted the moment-to-moment action. Electronic Arts published the ambitious title, with every entity involved expecting the new IP to explode in myriad ways. Unfortunately, studio mismanagement led to the property’s early demise. THQ Nordic swooped in for the save in 2018, acquiring the license before giving Kingdoms of Amalur a new lease on life late last year. In the coming weeks, the action-packed adventure will take center stage once again.

Today, December 2, THQ Nordic shared an abundance of details about the forthcoming Fatesworn expansion for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The DLC, priced at $19.99, comes to PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox on December 14, introducing a snowy and mountainous new landscape known as Mithros. Across a campaign slated to run six-plus hours in length, players will assume the role of the “fabled Fatesworn” and face off against the newly awakened God of Chaos, Telogrus. The God’s attempt to throw the world into chaos will force the Fatesworn to battle the Niskaru and their brethren, all of whom will appear at random in procedurally generated Chaos dungeons.

Interestingly, Chaos also comes in the form of a new gameplay mechanic, complete with a non-combat skill, weapons, and gear. The DLC will additionally feature 21 weapons and shields, nine of the Chaos variety, six unique armor sets, 25 Chaos Realm dungeons, rifts, portals, and a level cap increase to 50. A press release from THQ Nordic describes the Fatesworn’s storyline as one that “concludes the game.”

The publisher’s note about Fatesworn concluding the story implies this will mark the last of Re-Reckoning’s post-launch content releases. As of writing, there’s no word on whether or not THQ Nordic plans to further pursue the expansion of this particular magical universe.

THQ Nordic has sat at the forefront of reviving long-forgotten franchises over the last couple of years. In addition to Kingdoms of Amalur’s remaster, Destroy All Humans returned last year as well, as did SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Thanks to THQ Nordic’s sister entity Deep Silver, another beloved classic – TimeSplitters – will eventually see the light of day again, too.
