League Of Legends Dev Launches Game Crossover Event RiotX Arcane

League of Legends developer Riot Games has launched a multi-game crossover event dubbed RiotX Arcane to celebrate the release of its new Netflix series. League is one of the most popular video games in the world and home to millions of active daily players. A spin-off series, Arcane, was announced in 2019 during Riot’s 10th anniversary and features a cast of experienced voice actors who are no strangers to the world of video games.

Arcane is Riot Games’ first full-length animated show and part of their larger strategy to expand the world and lore of League of Legends. The first three episodes were released on Netflix on November 6, with two more batches of three slated to air later in the month. A glamorous red-carpet premiere event, attended by staff and prominent community members, was hosted by Riot Games in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, a global watch party was also hosted online on Twitch, where streamers were able to rebroadcast the first episode to their viewers. The show takes place in the world of Runeterra, where League of Legends is set and follows the stories of popular characters such as Jinx and Vi.

In order to celebrate the release of the series, Riot has organized RiotX Arcane – a month-long event spanning multiple games, some of which are developed by outside studios. The celebration is split up into three parts, each representing the overall themes of the episodes, and will coincide with the continuing releases of episodes. First, the League World Finals and Arcane Premiere Super Weekend took place on November 6 and kicked off the festivities. Next up is Progress Days, which starts November 7 and will continue through to November 13, when the second batch of episodes will air. Lastly, Undercity Nights will take place from November 14 until November 20 and will close with the release of the last three episodes of Arcane.

During this time, fans will be able to win special items and rewards themed after the show. League of Legends players can snag free skins for Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, and Jayce and enjoy updates to the game. The mobile version – League of Legends: Wild Rift, is also getting the celebratory treatment with free skins for daily log-ins and Arcane-themed events. Meanwhile, Riot’s CCG Legends of Runeterra will be getting a new champion in Joyce, a new PvE mode, and various cosmetics. Teamfight Tactics, on the other hand, is getting a “Double Up” mode which allows you to play with your friends and a new set. Lastly, Valorant will add a new agent named Chamber and the free RiotX Arcane Pass. However, that’s not all, as Riot is also collaborating with popular games such as Among Us, PUBG, and Fortnite, to bring League of Legends beyond the world of Runeterra. The most prominent of these collaborations was the recently announced Jinx skin coming to Fortnite.

The new Netflix show and increased media coverage will likely bring in more players for the already-popular MOBA game, as was the case with Dota 2 when its own animated series, Dragon’s Blood, premiered on the streaming platform earlier this year. This is good news for Riot, as League is already one of the most successful video games in the world and has a bustling esports scene. The League World Finals alone reached more than 4 million viewers outside of China this year. Meanwhile, Riot recently shared over Twitter that monthly active players for their games set in the League of Legends universe have surpassed 180 million. This is more than the entirety of Steam’s concurrent active monthly player base, which currently sits at around 120 million.
