The Legend of Korra is a show just as much about family bonding as elemental bending, including that of Aang, Katara, and their offspring.

Legend Of Korra Aangs Family Tree (From Oldest To Youngest)

As an Air Nomad, The Legend of Korra’s Aang has no parents— which Zuko crudely mentions in an early episode— but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know anything about fatherhood. He starts a little family with Katara after things settle down a bit, producing three beautiful children in quick succession: Bumi, Kya and Tenzin.

Kya and Bumi clearly have no interest in propagating the Aang-Katara bloodline, but Tenzin goes on to have four kids all by himself— Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. This list explains the histories of these seven living descendants of Avatar Aang, arranged by their respective ages.

7 Bumi

Katara and Aang’s eldest child, Bumi, is referred to as a “bit of a wild man,” by General Iroh. As such, it is not surprising that he was named in honor of King Bumi of Omashu, a man whose enthusiasm was as extreme as his idiosyncrasies were countless.

Bumi’s mother found him rather difficult to handle when he was a kid, mostly because he took being a nonbender rather seriously and overcompensated in different ways. He is prone to weaving intricate tales of heroism, although they seem almost completely nonsensical— especially for Tenzin, who doesn’t like his big brother’s irresponsible behavior.

6 Kya

Kya is a unique character in terms of her sexual preference, though it is never treated as a taboo— she come out of the closet when she is younger, and both Aang and Katara unsurprisingly offer her their blessings and unconditional love. Her Waterbending skills are sharply honed, having received considerable training under her mother.

Kya, as the middle child, exhibits two general personality traits. For the most part, she is a rational individual, but there are times when she just lets go and has fun— for example, the time the siblings go looking for Ikki. Sadly, like her older brother Bumi, she believes that her father didn’t give her enough attention when they were growing up, instead choosing to spend most of his time giving Tenzin Airbender training.

5 Tenzin

Tenzin is quite spry for his age, often taking part in combat alongside Korra and his own children without restraint or fear. The youngest of Katara and Aang’s offspring, he was also their only Airbending child— though Korra’s portal magic subsequently made him just a little less special.

Tenzin tries his best to live according to the principles of Air Nomad tradition, but his true nature is sometimes repressed when he attempts to be as serious as he believes his deceased father would want him to be. Thankfully, after “meeting” Aang in the Fog of Lost Souls, he understands that he is his own person and not an extension of the Avatar. From this point onward, Tenzin allows himself to relax and enjoy life a little more.

4 Jinora

Tenzin’s urge to restart the Air Nation has him reproduce like there’s no tomorrow— poor Pema. Their firstborn, Jinora, is a gentle soul, depicting maturity far beyond her years and sometimes even more than her father. She seems to have inherited her paternal grandfather’s instinct for Airbending, although she takes it much further than Aang has ever done.

Not only does she save Korra and the world by restoring Raava’s spirit and transferring it to the human world, but she also generates a cooperative Airbending strategy in order to take Zaheer down. For these accomplishments, Jinora is permitted to become an Airbending Master at the delicate age of eleven, making her the youngest person to reach this level in over ten thousand years.

3 Ikki

Although Ikki’s narrative is not as well-developed as those of her siblings, she is an inquisitive child with an ardent fervor for anything and everything. The second child of Tenzin and Pema, she is usually direct in her queries, regardless of how sensitive they might be to the people she’s lobbing them at.

For example, Ikki is the one who lets slip to Asami that Korra has a crush on Mako, a horrifyingly embarrassing situation for the Avatar. She is the closest in nature to her father, given that she gets upset easily when her siblings make fun of her. This helps them forge a stronger parent-child bond, however, like the time they spend a lovely day playing with a bunch of Sky Bison calves together.

2 Meelo

Legend Of Korra Aangs Family Tree (From Oldest To Youngest)

Meelo is a literal tornado— stretching the limits of what it means to be a hyperactive child. He is the youngest child and only son of Tenzin, at least until his baby brother is born in Book One: Air. Meelo is eerily similar to Aang, especially in his outrageous shenanigans and sense of adventure.

If his grandpa were alive, they would have most definitely gone Elephant Koi surfing and Hog Monkey riding together. Unlike Aang, though, Meelo can never sit still— forget meditation— and is best known for his uncontrollable gas. In spite of his extremely young age, he even displays a small amount of romantic affection towards Korra, although her attentions are directed towards older boys and girls.

1 Rohan

Being a baby, Rohan’s Airbender status remains unknown— although if history is any lesson, he will turn out to be a fighter like the rest of his family. Katara warmly tells her son and daughter-in-law that their newborn is most likely going to be an Airbender, although Pema desperately hopes to have at least one nonbender child so that she could have something in common with him.

Rohan has a cordial relationship with his Aunt Kya, though it’s sometimes tainted by his tendency for losing his lunch all over her. He is last seen at the wedding of Zhu Li and Varrick, where he almost succeeds in escaping his mother’s clutches— but alas, he is caught and given a thorough washing.
