LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales Parodies Iconic Alien Poster

Disney+ has released a new poster for their latest LEGO Star Wars special, LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, that parodies the iconic poster for Ridley Scott’s 1979 film, Alien. Terrifying Tales is the second LEGO-themed holiday tie-in special released from the streamer following last year’s LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. The specials take place in a non-canon version of the Star Wars universe and feature an eclectic mix of characters from across various eras of the franchise’s storied lore. The stories are often lighthearted and comedic, filled with meta jokes that poke fun at the more absurd aspects of the universe.

Because of the relatively low-stakes nature of Lucasfilm’s LEGO Star Wars ventures, the company has been able to let loose with marketing for their holiday specials. Promotional materials for Terrifying Tales have been creative, to say the least, with the studio releasing a The Shining-themed poster for the LEGO special just last week. Now, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller is the latest classic horror film to be parodied to promote the special.

The Star Wars Twitter account recently tweeted a new poster for Terrifying Tales that parodies the iconic theatrical poster for Alien. While the original poster features a hatching Xenomorph egg, the LEGO poster instead shows a shattered Death Star over a plate of LEGO studs. The LEGO poster also slightly alters the original tagline from “In space no one can hear you scream” to “In space, no one can hear you breathe.” Check out the poster below:

Given how tightlipped Lucasfilm’s PR department usually is when it comes to their mainline shows and films, it’s refreshing to see the LEGO team have fun promoting these shorts. Creative posters like this can help generate buzz about the studio’s LEGO shorts, which often fall by the wayside due to many fans’ exclusive interest in the primary Star Wars canon. Some of the franchise’s most innovative stories come from their non-canon ventures (such as Star Wars: Visions), and these LEGO shorts can help shine a light on this fact.

The target audience for Lucasfilm’s LEGO specials, like Terrifying Tales, may skew younger, but they are equally as important t0 the franchise’s longevity as the flagship shows and films. George Lucas himself has always been adamant that his franchise is first and foremost for children and young adults on the cusp of growing up. Specials like these help keep young viewers engaged with the series while also ensuring that there will always be space for younger fans in the expansive Star Wars fandom.
