LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Has Around 300 Playable Characters

Fans of the plethora of Lego Star Wars games that have come out should get excited about the next one, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, as it sounds like it’s going to be bigger and better than any of its predecessors. Spanning all nine movies of the Skywalker saga, it’s filled with all the most beloved characters, as well as the characters many try to forget, with 300 of these characters being playable in the game.

Unlike previous Lego Star Wars installments, The Skywalker Saga will be non-linear, meaning that all nine episodes will be available to the player from the start, and players can choose to play the story in any order they wish. This will also be the first Lego Star Wars game to have an open world, so players can jump to 28 different locations in one of their freely explorable ships, instead of having a hub area confined to one location like Mos Eisley Cantina. Originally the release date for the game was announced as October 20th 2020, but a leak from the Lego official website lead fans to believe the game had been delayed to 2021. Straight after this leak, at the 2020 Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was announced that the game would be released in the spring of 2021, so hopefully it isn’t far off now.

Dawn McDiarmid, lead hub designer at TT Games, spoke to Official PlayStation Magazine recently about content that fans can look forward to in The Skywalker Saga. The Gamer reports that McDiarmid said that there will be about 800 unique characters in the game, 300 of which will be playable. This will feature characters from all three trilogies, and new characters from the sequel trilogy that haven’t been Lego-ified before will be seen, including the adored Babu Frik, the strange looking droidsmith from Kijimi, and even Yaddle, one of the only characters from Yoda’s species.

Following in the open-world footsteps of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the next Star Wars game that isn’t built from Lego will also feature an open-world design, much like some more recent highly acclaimed Star Wars games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However, this game will be the first project in 8 years that EA doesn’t have its hands all over. Instead, Lucasfilm Games has partnered with Ubisoft, and although the game is probably still years from a release, fans can rest a little easier knowing that the chances of this game being cancelled are much slimmer than under EA’s control.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems like it’s going to be another step up for Lego games, considering the linear, unvoiced and condensed stories that used to be fit into a game mostly about smashing and collecting Lego. Although Lego Star Wars games have always allowed players to step into the shoes of many of the main characters along the journey, being able to play as 300 different characters leaves players spoiled for choice. Taking into account all the other great things to come in this game, it will be a Lego Star Wars game that fans won’t want to miss.
