A fan beautifully illustrated the epic Levi vs. Kenny fight from Attack on Titan season 3 in flipbook form. Attack on Titan is one of the most popular Japanese anime series in the world. Based on the manga of the same name by author Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan tells the story of humanity’s fight for survival against nightmarish human-eating titans and the monsters that made them. The anime has spanned four seasons, with Attack on Titan season 4 part 2 slated to premiere in January 2022.

There are a slew of epic Attack on Titan battles, but one that felt particularly personal was the fight between Captain Levi Ackerman and Kenny Ackerman. Levi was introduced in Attack on Titan as the epitome of the stoic soldier, never one to show emotion but always quick to take care of bloodthirsty titans. That’s why it was almost disconcerting to see Levi actually show genuine rage towards the mysterious Kenny, who shot Levi’s comrades without hesitation. Their epic season 3 battle was a tonal shift for the series as the first battle that featured humans fighting humans.

It took talented artist MillkunTV 400 hours to illustrate their flipbook of the Levi/Kenny battle. The artist posted a video of their incredibly detailed work, with intervals showing the illustration process sped up in coordination with the animation in action. The phenomenal attention to detail with each hand-drawn illustration simply has to be seen to be believed. MillkunTV’s work looks just as good as the actual episode and captures the heightened and tense emotions between Levi and his former father figure and actual uncle Kenny. Levi and Kenny’s intense season 3 battle really foreshadowed who the real villains of Attack on Titan were all along.

Humanity’s greatest enemy was always itself. Kenny’s willingness to kill Levi’s comrades without a second thought was a harsh but grim step towards the inevitable Marley-Eldia conflict of Attack on Titan season 4. One of the best parts of the show isn’t the blood or violence, but the fact that each character isn’t necessarily good or evil. As Kenny tells Levi before he dies at the end of season 3, everyone just wants to survive and find a reason to keep moving forward in order to truly live.

Attack on Titan will conclude when part 2 of season 4 premieres next year. The anime has done a fantastic job of introducing viewers to a complex world full of complicated characters with a story filled to the brim with epic action, a gorgeous orchestral score, heartbreaking moments, and an ending that could go in any direction. Hopefully, Captain Levi will live to see a more peaceful world, but Attack on Titan is anything but predictable.
