Logan Story Details Reportedly Reveal X23 Actress & Richard E Grants Character

While there is a lot of excitement currently for the lineups that both Marvel Studios and DC will roll out next year in the superhero genre, the first one out the gate will be Logan. This is currently set to be the only X-Men-related film released by Fox next year, but it will also be the final appearance made by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Over the years, he has become the face of the X-Men franchise, with Wolverine being the centerpiece of almost every film so far. As Jackman prepares to move on from the role, the studio will need to find new stars for the X-Universe.

Ryan Reynolds has already won audiences over with his performance as Deadpool, and Fox has a young and talented group that could lead the main storyline into the modern day. There have been plenty of rumors in the lead up and during production of Logan surrounding the appearance of X-23, but the identity of the actress playing her has remained a secret until now.

The Wrap is reporting on more character details from Logan and have reportedly confirmed who will play Laura Kinney, the two-clawed female Wolverine. According to their sources, Sienna Novikov will portray the character (something that OmegaUnderground had speculated on earlier), giving her a shot to have a potentially lengthy role in this universe. This is undoubtedly her biggest role yet after making her big screen debut in last year’s Daddy’s Home. While in the comics X-23 is a clone of Logan, this will not be the case in the movie, but there will still be some evil doctors involved. The Wrap is also reporting that Richard E. Grant will play Dr. Zander Rice, who is described as “the mad scientist behind Transigen.”

Outside of these new details, it has been reported that Mister Sinister is not featured in the film, despite previous reports coming from the X-Men: Apocalypse commentary saying that was the case.

A confirmation that X-23 is in the film is not going to surprise anyone who has been following the film’s production, but it is great to finally have a name to the face. Novikov appears to be the girl spotted on set early on in filming bleeding next to Logan, and with her character having the potential for more appearances down the road, it will be interesting to see how big of a role she has in her first outing. She could almost serve as the MacGuffin of the film if Logan is focused on mentoring and protecting her, while Transigen is focused on capturing her for their own use.

These latest reveals continue to keep Logan in the news, most of which are coming from official sources such as Jackman, director James Mangold, or the film’s official social media accounts. Just earlier today, Boyd Holbrook’s identity was revealed, pointing to him and Grant now working together.

The most interesting part of the report however is likely the denial that Mister Sinister will not be making an appearance in the film. His presence and company were teased in the latest X-Men film post-credit scene, and if he is not appearing here, where he will be appearing will remain a mystery for now. Hopefully, all of this is lead up to a trailer, which should be coming soon with the film less than six months out.

Logan opens in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6, 2017, March 2, 2018, and June 29, 2018. Deadpool 2, Gambit, New Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.
