Loki Who Is Miss Minutes Working For (Is She Really In Charge)

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Loki episode 6.

In Loki, it seems Miss Minutes knows more than she’s letting on, and the character may be secretly running things. Miss Minutes (Tara Strong) is first introduced in the Loki premiere. In the episode, Miss Minutes appears as the Time Variance Authority’s A.I. clock mascot, narrating a video introducing the concept of variants and the Sacred Timeline. She regularly pops up in the series, gladly shuffling through files to find some requested TVA information and teaching Loki (Tom Hiddleston) everything he needs to know about the organization.

Miss Minutes makes a final appearance in the Loki finale. In the episode, Loki and Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino) make it to the Citadel at the End of Time. Then, just before they meet He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), the person supposedly behind the TVA, Miss Minutes pops up to stop them. In the appearance, Miss Minutes offers the two Loki variants anything they could want to keep them from reaching He Who Remains. However, the variants reject her offer, saying they write their own destiny now. “Sure you do. Good luck with that,” Miss Minutes replies.

There are hints that there’s more to Miss Minutes than it seems. Throughout the series, it’s clear the character knows more than she’s revealing. For example, in Loki episode 5, Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) calls on Miss Minutes to get her all the files on the founding of the TVA. When Miss Minutes calls the request a “mighty tall order,” Renslayer says she’s just trying to help the person that’s secretly behind the TVA. However, from her appearance in the Citadel at the End of Time in the Loki finale, Miss Minutes obviously already knows who’s behind the TVA, so she’s lying to Renslayer and all the TVA employees. Miss Minutes’ unusual behavior throughout Loki had fans theorizing about where the character’s loyalties lie, and it seems there are a couple of options.

The most obvious answer is that Miss Minutes works for He Who Remains. In the finale, the character acts as He Who Remains’ buffer, offering the Loki variants a devilish deal of returning to the timeline and achieving their wildest dreams. The deal would keep them under TVA control, so they decline, but it stalls the Loki variants long enough that they get to He Who Remains around the same time that the Multiverse is breaking out. If Miss Minutes does work for anyone, the deal seems to indicate that it’s Majors’ character.

Alternatively, Miss Minutes could be secretly running things. While it appears He Who Remains is pulling strings at the TVA, he seems like he really wants out of the job. He gives the Loki variants two options: either run the TVA for him or kill him and release the Multiverse. Apparently, he’d rather die than keep running the TVA. Also, it’s Miss Minutes who tries to stop the Loki variants from reaching He Who Remains. Though she could’ve been doing that at his bidding, it may have also been an attempt to keep him at the TVA. Loki fans have already come up with various theories saying Miss Minutes is an A.I. that’s secretly running things at the TVA. Time will tell if they’re right.
