Chapter 4 of Lost Judgment is called Red Knife and is the most action-packed one yet, with plenty of excitement and some interesting investigative moments. Several more key characters are also introduced throughout the chapter, which focuses predominantly on Ehara’s groping conviction and his potential links to Mikoshiba’s murder.
Lost Judgment’s fourth chapter also marks the point where all of the School Stories can be unlocked, not to mention the vast majority of the game’s side cases. As a result, completionists could end up spending countless hours on this one chapter alone, though main story content will only account for an hour or two of that time.
Where to Find Sawa
After going over the case with the rest of the guys at Yokohama 99, players will need to return to Seiryo High. Once there, they should head up to the Faculty Room on the second floor, though can swing by the cafeteria to turn in the “The Body Model Walks at Night!!!” side case if they chased Naito down in Chapter 3. It’s also possible to initiate the “Trying the Patience of a Saint” side case at this point simply by heading up to the third floor.
Visiting the faculty room, however, will lead to a cutscene with Koda and a few of the bullies, who now seem to be a lot more tolerant of Tak’s presence at the school. After speaking with them, players should head inside and talk to Sawa, who still wants nothing to do with Tak. Unfortunately, there’s nothing players can do to change her mind at this time, so it’s best to leave her be for now.
Investigating the Murder Scene
With Sawa unwilling to talk, Tak decides to check out the crime scene and calls Tsukumo in order to pinpoint its exact location. Once they’re done with any side cases or School Stories that they want to tackle, players should make their way to the building where Mikoshiba was killed, which is in the Koreatown district just south of Seiryo High.
Upon their arrival, players will need to find a way inside the building and so should examine the broken metal fence on the left side of the building. They’ll then need to focus on the air conditioning units nearby, which will enable them to climb onto a balcony and gradually parkour their way up to the open window.
Once inside, players should examine the arrow on the floor, the bloodstain, and the pile of debris, which will lead to Tak deducing that this is definitely where the murder took place. His sleuthing is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of a couple of Kanagawa PD detectives, however, and so he’ll need to explain why exactly he’s snooping around their crime scene.
In order to earn the officers’ trust, players should show them the Mikoshiba photo. As they continue to talk, Tak will notice some men spying on them from down below and will leap out of the window to give chase. As with any other chase in Lost Judgment, players simply need to complete some QTEs and then press the circle/B button once the fleeing man runs out of stamina.
Unfortunately, Tak’s hard work ends up being for nothing, as the men are shown to have no connection to the crime. Once they’ve been cleared and sent on their way, there’s nothing left for players to do other than return to Yokohama 99 to rest; unless, that is, they still have side cases they’d like to take care of.
Investigating The Train Stations
When they arrive back at the office, players will receive a call from Saori at Genda Law. Tak will express an interest in checking out the crime scenes for Ehara’s groping case, which becomes the next main objective after players rest up on the couch. To get to the first crime scene, they’ll simply need to hop in a taxi and then select Ikebukuro Station from the top of the destination list.
After running through the details of Ehara’s actions at the station, Tak and Issei will hop on a train to Shinjuku. While onboard, players will need to examine one of the cameras above either of the doors. They’re to the right of the screens with the route information on, beneath a small CCTV camera sign.
At Shinjuku Station, players will need to make their way along the platform and examine all of the visible CCTV cameras. The majority of them are found along the edges of the platform, though there are also some circular 360-degree cameras in the central areas as well.
Eventually, after identifying all 13 cameras, players will be shown an updated map of the platform and will need to focus on four points of interest on it to progress the main story. These are, from left to right, the point where Ehara disembarked, the blue dotted line, the area marked “escape path”, and the point where Ehara was finally apprehended.
After talking it through a little more with Issei, Tak will get another call from Saori, who will invite him to attend a meeting with Ehara at the Tokyo Detention Center the following day. Before that though, Tak wants to head back to Seiryo High to question Sawa some more, so players should make their way back over there once they’ve returned to Yokohama.
As always, Sawa can be found at her desk in the Faculty Room on the second floor, though is still not in the mood to talk about Mikoshiba. When confronted by the photo of Toshiro, however, she’ll take Tak up to the roof and confirm that Mikoshiba had indeed bullied Ehara’s son before his death. With the bullying now finally confirmed, players can make their way back to Yokohama 99.
How to Complete the ‘A New Partner?’ Side Case
Upon their arrival at the office, players will be greeted by Tsukumo and Ranpo, the detective dog. Following the dog will lead them to a lost child and doing so a second time will take them to the child’s mother. After dealing with the Yakuza who are trying to extort her, the mother and child will be reunited, as too will Ranpo and Amazawa, who it turns out is actually the dog’s owner.
From this point onward, players will be able to call Ranpo whenever they like by using the Detective Dog app on their phone. They’ll also find him sat outside the entrance to Yokohama 99 and will be able to take him out for a walk whenever they like. He’s great for finding hidden items, but also comes in very handy during certain side cases.
How to Beat Tesso
When they next return to the detective agency, players will find Kuwana hanging out on the couch. After another frosty encounter, the windows to the building are suddenly broken and Tak, Kuwana, and Kaito will rush outside to deal with the masked men responsible for the damage.
There’s another chase scene here, which will ultimately lead Tak to the Liumang’s hideout. There, he’ll meet the group’s claw-handed leader, Tesso, and will need to defeat him and some of his men in a somewhat challenging fight. By using Tiger Style and with enough dodging though, players should be able to hold them off until Kaito and Kuwana show up to help.
After defeating some more Liumang members, the trio will return to Yokohama 99 to find that Tsukumo and Sugiura have been attacked by a different group of masked strangers. They both require hospital treatment, which is enough to give Kuwana cold feet. After he leaves, players should get some rest.
Questioning Ehara
The next morning, players will need to head outside and take a Taxi to Kamurocho. Once there, they should head towards Genda Law, which will prompt Kaito to notice that there are a lot more punks around than usual. One will then approach the pair and ask about a missing person, which ultimately leads to yet another fight.
Once players have defeated the thugs, their leader, Akutsu, will reveal himself and ask Tak and Kaito if they know anything about the missing man. He’ll also offer Kaito a job while simultaneously threatening to murder Tak, but, for now, players can forget about Akutsu and continue on their way to the offices of Genda Law.
With Saori now at their side, players should head outside and take a taxi over to the Tokyo Detention Center. There, they’ll finally get a chance to question Ehara and, after listening to him talk for a few minutes, should show him the photograph of Mikoshiba when they’re prompted to provide evidence that the police do not have.
After leaving the detention center, players simply need to return to the Yagami Detective Agency to bring the chapter to a close. Once there, Kaito will show Tak a shocking video of Mikoshiba’s murder that has begun circulating online and the screen will slowly fade to black.
