The upcoming Lost Judgment includes a host of classic Sega games including 1996’s Sonic the Fighters and 1986’s Alex Kidd in Miracle World, all of which are playable in-game. Lost Judgment is the next addition to the expanded world of Yakuza, serving as a sequel to 2018’s Yakuza spin-off, Judgment.

Lost Judgment follows the story of private detective Takayuki Yagami as he investigates a suspect accused of both sexual harassment and murder. When players aren’t unraveling the game’s story, they can take a break by partaking in a high school-based rhythm game, or try their hand at a local video game arcade. While the light-heartedness of the Lost Judgment’s side activities may seem to contrast with the game’s plot, both the Judgment and the Yakuza games are known for not taking themselves too seriously.

Players who pick up Lost Judgment can take advantage of a host of classic Sega games, accessible either through the Sega Club arcade, or through Yagami’s Sega Master System home console, which can be found in his office. The full list of playable games has been confirmed via the PlayStation Blog, which also shows off the games in action. While some of the arcade and retro console games have previously featured in Judgment, there are new additions for the sequel, along with the new way to play from Yagami’s office, and the ability to switch between Western and Japanese versions of the Master System games. The complete list of playable Sega games is as follows:

There are now multiple Sega releases that include classic playable arcade games. Judgment’s selection of retro in-game titles are fondly remembered, and even include a game specifically made for Judgment – Kamuro of the Dead – which is similar to arcade shooters like House of the Dead. Lost Judgment follows this trend with a sequel to the fictional game, this time named Hama of the Dead. Even some of Sega’s older releases have included playable arcade cabinets, such as 1999’s Shenmue, which has a range of in-game arcade games like Space Harrier, which will also be available in Lost Judgment.

Players won’t have long to wait to test out the arcade and Sega Master System games available in the release, with the game out later this week. So far, Lost Judgment has received favorable reviews from critics who’ve celebrated its gameplay, though many have criticized the game’s story. Lost Judgement will be available from September 24 for both last-gen consoles, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC release hasn’t yet been announced.
