Reality TV hit Love Island has been characterized by plenty of drama and controversy during its run. Several contestants have confessed to having been scarred by the brutal heartbreaks they received on the villa. There have been concerns about the negative mental effects of the show on its participants, especially when it comes to bad relationships.

Overall, Love Island has been a global success, with over 15 international versions being developed over the years. Given that contestants get a short time to decide who they want to be, their decisions aren’t always the right ones. Sometimes it leads to good couples and other times, they’re the worst.

10 Best: Cara De La Hoyde And Nathan Massey

Cara and Nathan beat Alex and Olivia to become the 2016 winners. Fans saw it coming as the two had coupled up on Day 1 and remained strong despite numerous external threats to their relationship.

The couple moved in together after leaving the villa but about a year later, they split up. Luckily, they got back together, with Nathan stating: “We needed that space apart from each other to realize how much we loved each other.” The lovebirds now have a child together.

9 Worst: Amber Gill And Michael Griffiths

Amber had an interesting journey in the villa. She first began seeing Calum Macleod before moving on to Anton Danyluk on a “let’s see where this goes” basis. But after meeting Michael, she fell head over heels for him.

Sadly, Michael couldn’t stay loyal. He openly lusted over bombshell Joanna Chimonides and in Casa Amor, he brutally dumped Amber, leaving her in tears. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Amber as she coupled up with Greg O’Shea and went on to win. She was glad that happened, saying: “I don’t think I would have won if I’d still been with Michael.”

8 Best: Molly-Mae And Tommy Fury

Tommy first had his eyes on Lucie Donlan when he entered the villa but as soon as Molly-Mae entered, he shifted his attention to her. He asked her to be his girlfriend by writing her a beautiful note and she accepted. Molly-Mae ended up as runner up together with Tommy at the end of the season.

After exiting the show, the pair moved in together. Tommy told Cosmopolitan, “Living together is going really good. You know, the biggest thing about moving in together is trust, and in a relationship, you have to be honest with each other. Since day one, me and Molly have been real with each other.”

7 Worst: Malin Andersson And Terry Walsh

Malin and Terry looked like they were going to have a storybook happily-ever-after life but things took a very interesting twist. Terry had promised to follow Malin out of the villa if she was ever ejected but when it happened, he changed his mind. Hours after Malin left, he began to hit on Tom Powell’s ex, Emma-Jane Woodham.

During a conversation with the boys, he told them that he had been planning to dump Malin anyway. Cold! When Malin was brought back to the show to confront Terry, he acted like he had seen a ghost. He told her he didn’t want to be with her because she was possessive. And when he went back to the lads, he gave them a fabricated tale of how the confrontation had gone down.

6 Best: Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt

Jamie seduced Camilla shortly after she was dumped by Johnny Mitchell. He quickly erased her heartbreak with his constant support, thus making him a fan-favorite contestant. Camilla was crowned the Season 3 runner-up alongside Jamie on Day 52. And after leaving the villa, they continued seeing each other.

After the show, there was a scandal after Jamie was spotted dancing with an ex at a nightclub but Camilla clarified that it was nothing and that she totally trusted him. The couple welcomed their first child in October 2020.

5 Worst: Jordan Hames and Anna Vakili

Jordan asked Anna to be his girlfriend only to confess his feeling for India Reynolds one day later. Anna told the Mirror that Jordan’s actions made her stop believing in love.

“When something like that happens to you, it always makes you extra careful. It’s a lesson,” she said. The reality star who now owns a shoe collection said that even though she goes on dates, she isn’t looking for anything serious. Who could blame her? Jordan broke her heart in the worst way possible.

4 Best: Jessica Shears and Dom Lever

Dom and Jess coupled up on their first day at the villa. They had the honor of becoming the first ever couple to make love on the show. This happened after Dom wrote a nice love poem for Jess. Sadly, Jess was dumped from the villa after just two weeks. Mike was dumped at the same time as Jess too.

Rumors began flying around that Jess was seeing Mike in the outside world but he refused to believe. After the show ended, Dom and Jess rekindled their love and kept going stronger. The two got married shortly after leaving the show. In May 2019, they announced that they were expecting their first child.

3 Worst: Rosie Williams and Adam Collard

Watching Adam smirk while Rosie cried at the end of their relationship was the most devastating thing ever. Adam first caused tensions in the villa when he stole Kendall-Rae Knight from Niall Aslam. Days later, he became smitten with Rosie and left Kendal-Rae for her. Kendall-Rae thus had to leave the villa.

But he wasn’t done. He soon dumped Rosie for Zara. This time he had found the one. When Zara was voted out, he opted to leave too to be with her. Rosie took shots at Adam after the show, calling him a player, to which Adam responded: “Yawn. I’ve had longer squat sessions than that ‘relationship.”

2 Best: Olivia Buckland And Alex Bowen

The lovebirds who met on Season 2 recently won an online poll for the best Love Island couple of all time. Alex entered the villa on Day 18 and struck up a blissful romance with Olivia. The two had their fair share of drama, like when a lie detector test proved Alex was lying. But they always patched things up. Alex was crowned the runner-up together with Olivia Buckland on Day 45.

Olivia and Alex got engaged a year after leaving the mansion. And in September 2018, they got married in Essex. Earlier this year, they announced that they were ready to have kids.

1 Worst: Laura Anderson And Wes Nelson

Laura is still very much bitter about her breakup with Wes. During a recent Instagram Live Q&A, a fan told her that he liked seeing them together. Instead of reminiscing, she shut the fan down. She clearly doesn’t want to hear the name Wes again.

Laura was coupled up with Wes on the first day of Love Island 2018. Despite the fact that she really liked him, he didn’t seem all that interested. Several days later, he left her for Megan, leaving her devastated. Luckily, Laura managed to reach the final after coupling up with Paul Knops
