Popular Twitch streamer Ludwig has finally announced the end of his historic subathon stream will be April 13, and all subscription proceeds from the final day will be donated to charity. Ludwig Ahgren, known online simply as “Ludwig,” kicked off his now-famous marathon stream on March 14th with an interesting premise: viewers would be controlling the length of his stream by subscribing to his channel, with every subscription extending the stream by 10 seconds.

Due to the unprecedented popularity of the stream, Ludwig has been streaming for 30 days non-stop since, something that he had not anticipated when he began the subathon. As a result, Ahgren is now the most subscribed streamer on Twitch, with his channel sitting at over 250,000 subs at the time of writing. While the all-time subs record is currently held by famous Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins at over 269,000, Ludwig hopes to surpass his record by the end of his stream.

Ludwig announced his plans to finally finish his stream at 9 PM PDT on April 13 (or 12 AM EDT on April 14) in a tweet, although the stream can very well still end before that time should viewers decide not to subscribe. He has also decided to mark the final day of his stream with a good cause; $5 will be donated to The Humane Society and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital for every subscription his channel receives on the final day. Previously, Ahgren had stated that half of the proceeds from the stream would be donated to charity, and now it looks like that sum will no doubt increase significantly as the milestone broadcast approaches the end.

THE LAST DAY OF THE SUBATHON WILL BE TUESDAY APRIL 13 AT 9 PM PST FOR EVERY SUB I GET THAT DAY I WILL DONATE $5 TO CHARITY RAISING MONEY FOR @HumaneSociety AND @StJude pic.twitter.com/Ve2aL3NLLr

Since I started streaming •Prince Phillip died •The Suez Canal got blocked and unblocked •David Dobrik made TWO apology videos •Jesus of Nazareth died and then rose from the dead It all ends April 13 9 PM PT

Ludwig’s subathon has not been without its ups and downs, with the stream coming one second away from ending on Saturday, before viewers scrambled to save it by gifting numerous subs to extend the stream’s life. On another occasion, the stream was also saved from finishing (after dropping below 30 seconds) when Ludwig matched 4,000 subs that he received in a span of 10 minutes, extending it by another 20 hours. His stream was also where the infamous Minecraft YouTuber CallMeCarson decided to briefly reappear, after vanishing since January following accusations of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Now that the end of Ludwig’s subathon has been announced, viewers and subscribers that have been following the stream for the past month must no doubt feel a mixed sense of pride and melancholy. It will be exciting to see whether Ahgren will be able to achieve his goal of surpassing Ninja’s all-time subscriber count, as he is currently only 19,000 subs away from breaking the record at publication time. Nevertheless, Ludwig’s subathon has definitely left a big mark on Twitch history, and he has earned some well-deserved off-camera rest.
