Hasbro has revealed a new Marvel Legends Black Knight figure for its Avengers: Infinity War wave. The new figure shows the fan-favorite Avenger in his iconic costume with Ebony Blade, while also wearing a winged helmet.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Hasbro announced a number of new waves of Marvel Legends figures for 2018, including movie lines for Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, as well as lines for Deadpool, the X-Men, and Spider-Man. Hasbro will also release an “Ultimate Riders” series, which features Black Widow and Ghost Rider on motorcycles. More figures were announced at HASCON 2017 and New York Comic Con 2017.

At London Comic-Con 2017, Hasbro unveiled the Marvel Legends 6″ Marvel Alliance Black Knight, which will be the first figure of the second Avengers: Infinity War wave. The first wave includes three comic-book inspired figures (King Cobra, Songbird, and Taskmaster).

Dane Whitman, a former leader of the Avengers and the most prominent character to carry the title of the Black Knight, is depicted wielding the Ebony Blade in his most recognizable outfit, complete with chainmail, blue cape, chest emblem, and belt. The most notable difference between this figure and his classic look is the helmet, which has wings on the sides. Over the years, Black Knight’s helmet is one aspect of the character’s costume that has been largely untouched.

Since the figure is listed by Hasbro as “Marvel Alliance Black Knight,” it appears that the company took inspiration from the discontinued social network game Avengers Alliance in designing the figure. Though the Avengers Alliance version of Black Knight did wear the winged helmet, the helmet seems to have originated in the pages of Incredible Hulk Weekly, a Marvel UK series published between 1979 and 1980.

This is the character’s first Marvel Legends figure since the 2007 Brood Queen wave, Hasbro’s third series of figures after taking over the Marvel Legends line from Toy Biz. Black Knight’s first figure was unusual for Marvel Legends, as it depicted the character in a lesser-known costume from the late 1990s, rather than his most popular look, or even his modern costume. The 2007 Black Knight wore shoulder armor and carried both the Ebony Blade and the Shield of Night.

The new figure will likely please collectors who have waited a long time for Hasbro to release a Marvel Legends figure of the character in a more iconic look. It’s possible that the new figure will include an interchangeable head for fans who prefer Black Knight’s original helmet.
