The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s surviving heroes will need all the help they can get in Avengers: Endgame, so could they turn to former foes to try and defeat Thanos? The Mad Titan proved to be the greatest threat the Avengers have ever faced when he snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, and wiped out half of the universe’s population in the process.

The Decimation has only left a few heroes around, and they’ll attempt to bring back those they lost and defeat Thanos by the time Endgame wraps up Phase 3. This will not be a simple task and Marvel Studios is doing their best to hide as many details as possible. There’s only been one trailer released so far, but the combination of set photos and the Super Bowl TV spot may begin to piece together the presumed time travel plot. This possible plan has brought about several theories regarding what exactly the Avengers will try to do, and a new one could turn former foes into allies.

In the latest Screen Rant video, we take a look at the theory that past MCU villains will return in Avengers: Endgame and be heroes this time. There’s only about a dozen heroes remaining to try and stop Thanos, so the theory suggests that the Avengers will try and convince Loki and others to join their side and peacefully use the Infinity Stones for good, and maybe even allow Tony Stark and Bruce Banner to create a proper version of Ultron. Check out all of the details in the video below:

This theory would become one of Marvel’s greatest kept secrets if it turns out to be true. The only one who’s confirmed for Avengers: Endgame is Loki, as Tom Hiddleston was spotted on set. Frank Grillo has heavily teased he’s reprising his role as Crossbones, but that’s believed to be a result of time travel allowing the film to visit past events and not because he’s being recruited to fight Thanos. There were no rumors of Michael B. Jordan or any other major villain actors being near the set either. That said, Red Skull and Ultron may just require voice work from Ross Marquand and James Spader.

Even if Marvel did manage to get all of these actors back, it doesn’t mean they’ll turn to the good side. As entertaining and strange as it would be to see Thor and Loki, Captain America and Red Skull, or Iron Man and Ultron fighting side-by-side, fans should just expect to see the heroes together. There’s little evidence to support this theory, so keeping expectations in check should be for the best. But, if Avengers: Endgame does see the heroes recruit their enemies, it’ll make for the latest major surprise from the MCU.
