The newest Marvel’s Avengers MCU skin is Iron Man’s Suitcase Armor from Iron Man 2. Crystal Dynamics’ cooperative superhero adventure struggled to gain traction after launch, but the game has been praised by some for its growing collection of highly detailed Marvel Cinematic Universe skins. Marvel’s Avengers recently added a rugged Captain America Avengers: Infinity War skin, which saw the First Avenger become the rogue hero Nomad.

Marvel’s Avengers launched without any MCU-inspired cosmetics in 2020, with release and many post-launch skins being based purely on older comic book appearances or original designs by Crystal Dynamics. MCU skins quickly became one of the most highly requested additions (aside from endgame content), and Crystal Dynamics finally added the game’s first MCU skins in March 2021. Marvel’s Avengers is periodically updated with free content, such as new playable heroes or boss fights, slowly growing the amount of things to do over time. Unfortunately, a majority of the game’s many cosmetic items can not be unlocked through gameplay, with customers instead needing to purchase them using real-world currency. Marvel’s Avengers’ MCU skins being locked behind microtransactions remains a disappointment for those who want to use the Avengers’ popular live-action designs but don’t wish to pay more for a full-price game.

On Twitter, Marvel’s Avengers revealed the next MCU skin as Iron Man 2’s Suitcase Armor. The iconic red-and-silver armor comes from a scene in the film where Tony Stark is caught off-guard by antagonist Ivan Vanko. Without his main suit available, Stark settles for a portable (but less durable) version of the armor, which unfolds from a small suitcase. This Mark V armor will join other Iron Man MCU designs previously added to Marvel’s Avengers, such as the classic Mark III and Avengers: Endgame’s advanced Mark LXXXV. The mobile Suitcase Armor will come to the Marvel’s Avengers Marketplace on October 28.

While paid cosmetics may be unavoidable in the live-service game, Marvel’s Avengers began selling consumables recently, leading to substantial controversy. Prior to release, developer Crystal Dynamics promised all gameplay-related content would be available for free to all players. Therefore, the game’s marketplace was only intended to sell cosmetic items that don’t affect gameplay. However, Marvel’s Avengers added paid consumable boosters granting more resources and experience earlier in October. A large segment of the game’s active community was frustrated by the broken promise, denouncing the move as cheap and pay-to-win.

Despite the recent controversy, Crystal Dynamics’ artists are clearly skilled at creating accurate, detailed recreations of iconic MCU designs. The Iron Man 2 Suitcase Armor looks like it’s been translated perfectly into the game, with small details capturing the armor’s brief but memorable live-action appearance. While pretty cosmetic items will not fix Marvel’s Avengers in the long run, players can admire the newest addition very soon.
