Thor’s iconic armor from 2012’s Marvel Cinematic Universe installment The Avengers will soon be available in Marvel’s Avengers. Crystal Dynamics’ multiplayer action game features a full cast of playable heroes including Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther and Thor. While the title originally launched without them, Marvel’s Avengers’ list of MCU-inspired costumes has grown steadily within the last year.

Marvel’s Avengers utilizes a live-service structure, with new content being added for free on a regular basis. This support comes in the form of new playable heroes, new locations, and new storylines for players to experience. Meanwhile, an extensive microtransaction system allows players to purchase cosmetic items such as outfits, nameplates and takedown animations for real-world currency. Marvel’s Avengers’ beloved MCU skins are restricted to this Marketplace, meaning players are forced to spend money if they want to dress up in Iron Man 2’s suitcase armor or Captain America’s outfit from Avengers: Endgame. In fact, Marvel’s Avengers includes $3,000 worth of cosmetics, which has frustrated many fans who want to customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes without charge.

As the game’s latest live-action recreation, Marvel’s Avengers has revealed Thor’s armor from 2012’s The Avengers via Twitter. The iconic outfit is worn by Chris Hemsworth in the beloved team-up film’s third act, as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble in New York City to fight off the alien Chitauri. Like the game’s previous MCU cosmetics, the God of Thunder’s armor is accurately translated into Marvel’s Avengers down to the tiniest detail. The model’s hair and light beard reflect Hemsworth’s appearance in the 2012 flick, and even Mjolnir gets a redesign rather than reusing the game’s original hammer design. Thor’s classic MCU look will be available in Marvel’s Avengers on December 9.

While many fans have criticized Marvel’s Avengers’ focus on microtransactions, developer Crystal Dynamics recently implemented a new system to let players earn outfits without spending real money. The brand-new Shipments system almost acts like a traditional loot box, except players are shown exactly what they will receive when they purchase it. Shipments are also purchased with Units, which are earned by simply playing the game, rather than Credits which are bought with real-world currency. This gives gamers a way to earn cosmetic gear simply by playing the game, though some items like MCU outfits are still restricted to the Marketplace.

Marvel’s Avengers has never fully recovered from its rocky launch back in 2020, but Crystal Dynamics seems committed to addressing fan feedback and making improvements. MCU skins were a massive fan request for many months, and their detail and faithfulness to the live-action franchise fails to disappoint. Thor’s armored appearance from 2012’s The Avengers is perfectly translated into the game, allowing players to channel their inner thunder.
