Marvels Avengers Roadmap Reconfirms SpiderMan Coming to PlayStation in 2021

A new Marvel’s Avengers roadmap has reconfirmed that Spider-Man is still coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game as a playable hero in 2021. In August, Marvel’s Avengers received a huge update in its free War for Wakanda story expansion, which added Black Panther and a campaign that takes roughly eight hours to complete.

Marvel’s Avengers faced a number of post-launch content delays after launch, largely due to issues caused by the pandemic. The next-gen ports of Marvel’s Avengers were pushed back, as was the addition of Kate Bishop and her associated missions. The fact that the game only recently started getting a large influx of playable content led some to suspect that Spider-Man wasn’t coming to the game any time soon, but Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics have again recommitted to the webslinger’s impending arrival.

Marvel’s Avengers senior game designer Scott Walters recently told Screen Rant that Spider-Man is still coming in 2021, This has further been confirmed in a news post on the official Marvel’s Avengers website. The post features an updated roadmap, which mentions that Spider-Man will be featured in a new Hero Event, and it’s due to take place in Fall/Winter 2021. As stated by Crystal Dynamics previously, Spider-Man will only appear in the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. For now, players on other Marvel’s Avengers platforms won’t receive any similar bonus heroes to make up for the absence of Spider-Man.

The roadmap also confirms that Marvel’s Avengers will receive its first Raid, which includes a battle against Klaw. More Marvel’s Avengers MCU skins will also continue to release throughout the rest of the year. A new enemy type, power level cap increase, a reworked system for resources and gear upgrading, a Hawkeye nameplate challenge, and earnable cosmetics have all also been promised to come to Marvel’s Avengers before the end of the year.

Marvel’s Avengers had a rough first year, with middling reviews, delayed content, and a playerbase that sharply dropped after launch. The game has been slowly attempting to build itself back up, with many citing War for Wakanda as a possible turning point that could lead to future success. It’s still a shame that Spider-Man won’t be appearing on other platforms, as the hero could be a major draw for new and returning players when he lands on PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, players on Xbox, PC, and Stadia won’t be given the same incentive. Marvel’s Avengers is celebrating its first anniversary and the arrival of Spider-Man before the end of the year could help it end 2021 with a bang (for part of the fanbase, at least).
