An updated roadmap for Marvel’s Avengers reveals that the game will soon receive a new raid and will allow players to form teams composed of any combination of heroes. The multiplayer superhero adventure, developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, received mixed reception when it released back in September 2020. Since then the game has received a number of free updates and expansions, but so far fans have largely been left unsatisfied.

Marvel’s Avengers functions as a live-service game, with new pieces of content slowly being added to flesh the game out over time. The most recent stop on Crystal Dynamics’ roadmap is the Cosmic Cube event, which added a brand-new boss battle against antagonist Monica Rappaccini. The update adds a new Villain Sector which pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against the Scientist Supreme while she wields an immensely powerful Cosmic Cube weapon. Crystal Dynamics also recently began adding cosmetic items to the game which are inspired by the Avengers’ appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These skins are so far all based on Avengers: Endgame, with Captain America’s costume recently released complete with the cinematic hero’s shield design.

Today Marvel’s Avengers released an updated roadmap, altering the content that players can expect to see in the coming months. July was originally said to debut Patrol Mode, which will allow a group of players to freely explore the game’s apocalyptic Wasteland map to complete objectives at their leisure. However, Patrol Mode has been delayed, and July will instead see the addition of various features such as an Omega Level Threat (OTL) titled “Family Reunion”. Omega Level Threats are said to be extremely challenging missions for high-level heroes, and this particular OLT will see players face the deadly Super-Adaptoid.

Our Roadmap Update: 🚧 Patrol Mode has been moved past the War for Wakanda Expansion. ✅ Multiplayer Mega Hives, Omega Level Threat: Family Reunion, and the permanent ability to play multiple of the same Hero will be released in July. Read – https://t.co/MX3KpBfawy pic.twitter.com/g8qyfSZJBW

Starting with the July update, players will also be able to permanently play as any combination of the game’s Avenger roster. Currently only one of each hero can be present in the game’s four-person squads, although this rule was briefly lifted during April’s Tachyon Anomaly event. To coincide with the unlocked player squads, Multiplayer Mega Hives will also arrive in July which will allow four players to cooperatively conquer the game’s multi-leveled dungeons.

While some fans may be disappointed that Patrol Mode has been delayed, Crystal Dynamics may be wise to prioritize multiplayer content in Marvel’s Avengers’ July update. The highly anticipated War for Wakanda expansion, still set to release in August, will likely draw a slew of new players to the Marvel game. By adding new endgame content in July, the developer can ensure that many players stick around after they finish the single-player storyline in August.
