The artist responsible for Marvel’s recent stunning symbiote covers has revealed a brand new cover featuring monster hunter, Elsa Bloodstone. David Nakayama is a cover artist whose work has been astounding, particularly as of late. These have included covers for the X-Men’s Hellfire Gala, the Extreme Carnage series, and X-Men Color Bleed variants. His latest is just as beautiful as his others – if not more so.

David Nakayama has done cover art for Marvel, DC, Hasbro, and other comic companies. He has also provided box art for Hasbro as well as game art for numerous apps, such as Hogwarts Mystery, Avengers Academy, Tome, Kixeye, Project Mercury, and City of Heroes. He has also done numerous variant cover series, including one that combined Marvel characters with breakfast cereal boxes and a set combining fashion magazine covers with the X-Men just in time for their Hellfire Gala. His latest is a single cover, but it’s no less stunning.

On Twitter, Nakayama revealed a variant cover for Death of Doctor Strange: Bloodstone #1. This issue will be a tie-in to the Death of Doctor Strange event. The special has the creative team of Tini Howard and Ig Guara. The cover features the titular focus of the special, Elsa Bloodstone. In the background is the iconic window of Doctor Strange’s residence – the Sanctum Sanctorum. Also on the cover are numerous tentacles and a creepy hand – likely a monster that Elsa is ready to take out.

Whoa! #Marvel just revealed my new cover for DEATH OF #DoctorStrange: BLOODSTONE #1 featuring the great #ElsaBloodstone! New special by @TiniHoward and Ig Guara out Jan. 12th! I’ve always loved this kick-ass monster hunter. STOKED to do this cover.😄👍 pic.twitter.com/BKY6d0ZB2m

Elsa Bloodstone last appeared within Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade. She was teaming up with Dane Whitman, the Black Knight, to track down Mordred who was in possession of a bloodstone. Her aim is to resurrect her father to find out where her inheritance lies. She obtained the stone but ultimately gave it up to save her fellow heroes. At the end of the series, she left without any clues as to where she would go next. Before this adventure, she had been with Deadpool on his island of monsters. The two had entered into a relationship of sorts, but it seems they’ve gone their separate ways as Deadpool’s series ended back in January, around the time of Marvel’s King in Black event, which he participated in. Now, Elsa is off on her own again and it appears her next adventure will be connecting to Doctor Strange’s death within the Marvel Universe.

The Bloodstone family is very connected to magic, making it fitting that the fate of Doctor Strange would cause some problems to arise that need dealing with. In this upcoming special, Elsa will once more be dealing with themes of family, as she works with her brother, Cullen. According to Newsarama, a new Bloodstone will be introduced in this issue – a sister. Cullen Bloodstone has had a dark past, making him a fearsome character with villainous tendencies. He lived in Klimtor, a hellish dimension, thanks to his father trying to toughen him up. Once Elsa freed him from Klimtor, he ended up being part of Arcade’s Murderworld. Cullen last appeared in the X-Men comic, Excalibur #8. The Bloodstone family is heading for a major reunion and Elsa will be at the forefront once more, just like she is in this gorgeous new variant by David Nakayama. Fans can read her latest adventure, or meet the Bloodstone family for the first time, when Marvel’s Death of Doctor Strange: Bloodstone #1 releases January 12.
