MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Hilarious sitcom Superstore is all about the awkward and frustrating experience of working in retail. Set at a store called Cloud 9, the series looks at how managers and associates deal with the big and small dramas that make up their daily lives. Like the best sitcom casts from the 1990s, the characters on Superstore stay in viewers’ minds and won’t let go.

What are the Myers-Briggs® personalities of the quirky employees at this Cloud 9 store? Here’s a look at the ways that these characters work within this framework.

10 Dina: ENTJ

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Lauren Ash’s Superstore character, Dina, is incredibly tough. She awkwardly explains her personal life to anyone who will listen, she wants to be the boss of everyone, and she loves nothing more than getting other people in trouble.

Her MBTI® would be ENTJ or “the decisive strategist.” These personality types look far into the future, make plans, and are super organized. Dina is an effective leader (even if sometimes she’s too harsh) and she’s comfortable taking charge.

9 Amy: ISFJ

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Amy (America Ferrera) is an ISFJ or “the practical helper.” She’s a model employee who follows the rules. She does wear a different name on her tag every day, but that’s only small act of rebellion. Otherwise, she’s a people-pleaser who can’t stop helping. She doesn’t get a lot of alone time, so when she gets the chance to eat junk food and watch TV by herself, she’s thrilled.

She is “modest” and also good at taking care of people, from her daughter to the other employees at Cloud 9.

8 Glenn: ISFP

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Glenn (Mark McKinney) is the store manager who does his best to keep everything under control. He struggles to fire people, make tough decisions, and get others to listen to him. He’s hilarious and charming without even trying to be.

Glenn is an ISFP or “the versatile supporter.” These types have “empathy,” and that’s definitely Glenn. He believes everything that people tell him and he just wants his employees to be happy. ISFPs get upset when they have to make a decision in a short period of time, which Glenn proves when he has to fire six employees in one episode.

7 Jonah: INFP

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Jonah (Ben Feldman) is a bit of a know-it-all when he gets hired at Cloud 9. He knows that he’s smart and can’t help trying to prove it to his co-workers.

Jonah is definitely an INFP or “the thoughtful idealist.” INFPs come up with a lot of plans and ideas that they care deeply about, which is exactly what Jonah does. When a problem arises at the store, his ideas are often totally unrealistic and get a lot of laughs from the other characters.

6 Mateo: ESTP

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Mateo (Nico Santos) is sweet, funny, and has strong opinions about everything related to Cloud 9 —including the other employees.

Mateo is an ESTP or “the energetic problem-solver.” These types have a sense of humor and are “easygoing,” which describes Mateo, who likes going to trivia nights with his co-workers and thinking about who he’s going to date next.

5 Sandra: ESFJ

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Kaliko Kauahi’s character, Sandra, is an ESFJ or “the supportive contributor.” She tries really hard to fit in, often making random comments that the other characters may or may not hear, and she can be a little awkward.

ESFJs are “loyal” and “outgoing,” which is totally Sandra. She might try too hard to be liked, like when Amy invites a group bowling and Sandra says they should call themselves “The Best Friends.” But she means well.

4 Garrett: INTP

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Colton Dunn’s character on Superstore, Garrett, is an INTP or “the objective analyst.” He’s the one who makes the announcements at the store, a role that he pretends to hate but secretly loves (as he starts doing the same thing at Cheyenne’s wedding).

These types don’t believe everything they hear, which describes Garrett as it takes a lot for him to care about something. It’s a while before Garrett really gets to know his co-workers and he hesitates before asking Jonah to live with him after Jonah’s apartment building gets destroyed in the tornado at the end of season 2.

3 Marcus: ENFP

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

If any Superstore character is “lively but restless,” as the official description for ENFP types says, it would be Marcus (Jon Barinholtz). Marcus sounds like “the imaginative motivator” as he’s always up to talk to someone, plan a fun night out, or come up with a solution.

The others don’t always love Marcus because his need to make friends can seem a bit desperate. And he’s also a bit of a jerk. But he has some positive qualities like other ENFPs, such as being “curious.”

2 Jeff: ESTJ

MBTI® of Superstore Characters

Jeff (Michael Bunin) is always the corporate face of Cloud 9 as he works for headquarters. The other employees get to know him a little bit when he starts dating Mateo.

Jeff would be an ESTJ or “the efficient organizer.” As the guy in charge, he sets out rules and procedures and seems to love following them. These types are all about “order and structure” and that couldn’t be more true of Jeff.

1 Cheyenne: ENFJ

Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) is the youngest Cloud 9 employee (at least until Amy’s daughter starts working at the store) and she’s the bubbliest one, too.

Cheyenne would be an ENFJ or “the compassionate facilitator.” She can be a bit gullible and she cares a lot about her co-workers. These types have imagination, love to socialize, and are loyal people who can definitely be counted on. Even though Cheyenne makes some questionable decisions, like marrying Bo (Johnny Pemberton), she’s a sweetheart who is a big part of Cloud 9.
