The MCU’s Daily Bugle starts an official TikTok account ahead of the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The fictional tabloid newspaper has been part of the Marvel Comics world since time immemorial, with frequent owner J. Jonah Jameson also becoming a fan-favorite character on screen. The outlet’s next appearance will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is set to his theaters on December 17.

While the Daily Bugle was a big part of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, with his Peter Parker working there as a photographer, the paper had a minimal role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until the end-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Featuring the surprise return of J.K. Simmons as Jameson, his tabloid broke the life-changing story of Spider-Man’s secret identity, posthumously supplied to him by Mysterio. The MCU Daily Bugle seems to have embraced the digital pivot, with Jameson relishing his power to speak directly into the camera at his conspiracy-hungry audience.

Now, their use of new media has transitioned into the real world, where the Daily Bugle has started a TikTok account to hype the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. If it seems a bit implausible that Jameson would have the wherewithal to join the platform, the film’s marketing team has that covered, with the inaugural video being introduced by Betty Brant (Angourie Rice), ex-girlfriend to Peter’s best friend and news anchor at their high school. Betty excitedly announces she’s running the Daily Bugle TikTok as their newest intern, though her attitude dampens when she discovers she’s actually unpaid. Check out the video below:

The Daily Bugle has obviously created some trouble for the MCU’s Peter, and based on the No Way Home trailers released so far, that’s likely to continue in the new film. It’s unclear if this marketing move to include Betty will mean that she will appear in scenes alongside Jameson, which could give her the opportunity to push against his anti-Spider-Man bias. Sony and Marvel Studios also clearly intend to give Simmons a more prominent role moving forward, as he also appeared in the end-credits scene to Venom: Let There Be Carnage to confirm that Eddie Brock had somehow slipped into the MCU timeline.

While the Spider-Man: No Way Home promotional campaign earned some criticism from fans for being slow to roll out their poster and second trailer, since the in-person trailer release event earlier this month, they seem to have suddenly kicked into high gear. This Daily Bugle TikTok account is a particularly clever way to market the film without engaging with the speculation surrounding the multiverse characters, and while also continuing the series’ youthful spirit. Plus, given how Jameson broke the Peter Parker story, he could have some major No Way Home tidbits to share with his loyal viewers before its release.
