Megan Fox & Sydney Sweeney Should Lead A Night Teeth Prequel

Warning! SPOILERS for Night Teeth

The vampire crime thriller Night Teeth finds two interesting characters in Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney, but then completely wastes their talents – which is why the actresses should headline a prequel. Night Teeth isn’t the first movie to mix crime drama and vampires. Predecessors like Blade and even the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff Angel do a better job at introducing neo-noir themes to the genre. There is a multitude of issues with Night Teeth, but a prequel starring Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney could bring success to the budding franchise.

Night Teeth follows Benny (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), a struggling college student with musical aspirations, who moonlights as a driver for his brother one fateful night. Benny picks up vampires Blaire (Debby Ryan) and Zoe (Lucy Fry), and what ensues is a night of blood-drinking, partying, and general chaos. The beginning of Night Teeth describes a vampire truce that is broken by Victor (Alfie Allen) so that the villain can take over the vampire underground. Initially, Blaire and Zoe are on Victor’s side, but towards the end, Blaire makes a turnaround. She helps Benny and Jay (Raúl Castillo) defeat antagonists Victor and Zoe, but Benny is bitten and turned in the process. So, where exactly do Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney’s characters come into play, and why did they have such small roles?

Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney’s roles as vampiric leaders is a tantalizing enough idea to warrant a Night Teeth prequel. The only time we see them is when Victor shows up to reveal his plan and then kills them. Frankly, Night Teeth wastes Megan Fox’s talent by introducing her and then killing her character off, all in the same scene. There’s a lot of intrigue around Grace (Fox), Eva (Sweeney), and the inner workings of the vampire coven in general. However, the film, unfortunately, glosses over it. One thing Night Teeth does do, though, is leave open the possibility for a prequel in which the actresses could better flex their prowess. A movie about Grace and Eva, the formation of the vampire underground, and an exploration into their roles within it would make for an interesting film. Fox could channel the same campy, sadistic energy the actress brought to cult-classic Jennifer’s Body. Eva’s role would be a different type of character than Sweeney is used to. However, she has enough ability to fully embody the part, which would only help her status as a star on the rise.

Arguably, Night Teeth focuses on its least interesting storyline and Netflix could repeat the same mistake with the sequel. The ending transparently sets up the possibility for another installment to the franchise and if the current film performs well enough, the streaming service would have no problem pumping out another movie. It makes sense as to why Fox and Sweeney weren’t cast in the lead roles of Blaire and Zoe. However, what is baffling is the bit parts that they were cast in. If Netflix decides not to make a prequel with Sweeney and Fox at the helm, then the company would seriously miss out on a gargantuan opportunity. The actresses would bring more camp, fun, terror, and most importantly, better performances to the films.

With the impending possibility of a Night Teeth sequel, the prospect of Sweeney and Fox having bigger roles excites viewers and critics alike. It’s unknown as of yet whether or not Netflix will listen to the opinions of the film’s fans and go ahead with extending the actresses’ roles – or even try to include some exploration into the vampiric lore of the established universe. Ultimately, if Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney were to appear in a Night Teeth prequel, there’s no doubt the movie would be incredibly fun to watch. Not to mention, it would probably be more popular than the original.
