During today’s E3 Nintendo Direct, Metroid Dread was announced, along with a Special edition that includes an art book, cards and steelbook to collect. Metroid fans are already able to pre-order the new Nintendo Switch game and the special edition with participating retailers online now.

Metroid Dread is the newest 2D side-scroller installment in the Metroid franchise, which dates back to 1986. The series is focused around the space bounty hunter Samus Aran, who fights nefarious space pirates and the strange alien Metroid creatures that give the series its name. In Metroid Dread, Samus will be facing off against an all-new enemy, robotic E.M.M.I creatures, which have never before been seen in the series. This game will take place following the events of Metroid Fusion, where Samus defeated the X parasites on planet SR388.

Following the debut trailer for Metroid Dread, pre-orders went live across the internet and at retailers around the world. This also includes a Special edition of the game, which according to a tweet from the official Nintendo of Europe Twitter account, will include a copy of the physical game, a steelbook case, a 190-page artbook of the franchise and holographic art cards. These five holographic art cards feature the box art for each of the main five Metroid games in the series, including Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. The artbook also features art from throughout the series, including many of Samus’ armor designs and how they have changed over the course of the series.

Metroid Dread based amiibo are also being released. A Samus and E.M.M.I figure will be launched alongside the game later this year. These are unfortunately not included in the Special edition release of the game and will need to be purchased separately. It is not yet known how these amiibo will interact with the game, or if they will at all.

Thankfully, it seems that this Special edition is not going to cost an arm and a leg, with Best Buy listing the pre-order price at $89.99, as opposed to the Standard edition at the standard $59.99. A $20 mark up is pretty reasonable considering how impressive these additional components look; the artbook alone is a valuable inclusion. Metroid fans should make sure to scoop up a copy of Metroid Dread Special Edition as soon as possible, as these pre-orders are likely to sell out fast. At the time of this writing, the Amazon page has already run out of stock.
