Michael B Jordan Reveals 2 Of His Biggest Hollywood Idols

Creed III actor and director Michael B. Jordan reveals his two biggest Hollywood idols. Jordan got his start on shows like HBO’s The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood, before making a splash with Josh Trank’s Chronicle and Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station. In 2015, Jordan re-teamed with both of those directors with Trank’s Fantastic Four and then Coogler’s Creed. From that point on, Jordan’s star continued to rise, featuring in everything from Black Panther and Creed II, to Just Mercy and last year’s Without Remorse for Amazon.

Jordan has continued to branch out with his projects, doing voice work for animated shows like Gen: Lock, Love, Death & Robots, and Marvel’s What If…? and taking on TV projects like Raising Dion for Netflix. He will star in director Denzel Washington’s A Journal For Jordan later this month and make his directorial debut with Creed III in 2022. Jordan is currently in pre-production on director Danny Boyle’s action-adventure film Methuselah and is expected to re-team with Coogler for the drama Wrong Answer, as well as producing and potentially starring in a Val-Zod Superman project for HBO Max.

In a new interview with THR, Jordan talked about his career trajectory and how he got to where he is today, reflecting on those who inspired him. Jordan revealed that two of his Hollywood idols were Denzel Washington and Will Smith. For Washington, Jordan was inspired by the actor’s “domination” of the leading man status. For Smith, Jordan identified with “work ethic” and Smith’s enterprise approach to the work. Read his full quote below:

“Denzel perfected ‘leading man.’ He was like, ‘I’m going to f***king dominate this one thing and master it’ — the specificity of that got him to the point where he is universal and can do anything. Will [Smith] took an enterprise approach, and that’s something I connect with. He says all the time that he doesn’t feel like he’s the most talented, but he works the hardest. It’s work ethic, big vision, marketability.”

Both Washington and Smith have both become cultural icons in Hollywood, garnering awards, accolades, and box office success. Washington has been nominated for an Oscar eight times, winning twice for both Glory and Training Day. The prolific actor has gone on to become a director as well as an actor, with his next appearance in front of the camera being for Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. Smith is one of the most successful actors of all time, breaking numerous box office records throughout his career and becoming a magnate in the industry. He just released his autobiography “Will,” with his current starring feature, King Richard now in theaters and HBO Max. Smith will also appear in the Disney+ NatGeo reality series Welcome To Earth later this month.

While Jordan’s career is still in its early stages compared to Washington and Smith, the actor has been very strategic about what he wants to accomplish going forward. Idolizing two of the most successful actors in all of Hollywood is a wise choice, as there’s much to be learned and emulated there, which will hopefully lead Jordan to the goals he seeks in the industry. Jordan has the leading man look and status to launch from, which is a good place to be. Thankfully, the actor is continuing to challenge himself, from directing Creed III to finding projects with filmmakers and studios that capitalize on what he has to offer, Jordan seems to be on a path to superstardom, much like his idol counterparts were when they were his age.
