Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

Michael Bay is probably one of the most well-known action flick directors, and he’s definitely made quite the name for himself in Hollywood. While we know he’s not done yet, he’s already directed a handful of popular films. He has an upcoming action thriller premiering in December, 6 Underground (with the wonderful Ryan Reynolds), so you better start refreshing yourself on all things Michael Bay.

If you’re a Bay fan, or if you’re trying to catch up on pop culture, we’ve made a list to shorten your binge. Here are his 10 best movies, according to Rotten Tomatoes. And yes, prepare for a lot of alien-robot talk.

10 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – 20%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This is the sequel of our favorite alien-robot series. Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) team up again after the Decepticons target him, and plague his mind with cryptic symbols. This is the last movie where both of these actors are involved in the franchise, so it’s definitely one of our favs. You can also find Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro in the mix. Despite the low rating of this film, we’re biased lovers of Megan Fox, so we think this was the last original and fantastic Transformers flick.

9 Pearl Harbor (2001) – 24%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This classic action-drama tells the story of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Starring Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Kate Beckinsale, this movie centers around two friends, a beautiful nurse, and their involvement with the horrific events that happened that day.

This film takes a romantic spin on this infamous point in the war, and brings the action to the big screen. Pretty perfect for the mind of Michael Bay, regardless of what the critics say.

8 Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) – 35%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This is the third part of the franchise, and frankly, we’re not sure how it beat out the second. This one involves a spacecraft on the moon and a race between the Autobots and the Decepticons to undercover its secrets. While Megan Fox isn’t apart of this one, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley takes the secondary role. We still get the rest of the cast, along with Patrick Dempsey, Frances McDormand, and John Malkovich. It’s still all the action-goodness you love about this series, so, we know you’ll re-watch it.

7 Armageddon (1998) – 38%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

We’re surprised this classic sci-fi action-adventure didn’t score higher on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie has become timeless, and everyone quotes it, right? After discovering an asteroid that is headed for earth, NASA recruits a strange team of drillers to help save the planet. Starring Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affelck, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi, and many more, we still think people love this film regardless of how well it did on paper. Seriously, it doesn’t get much more classic for the sci-fi action genre than this flick.

6 The Island (2005) – 40%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This is another sci-fi action flick, with a thrilling twist. Ewan McGregor is Lincoln, a man living in a futuristic, sterile colony, who begins to question his existence when his friend (Scarlett Johansson) is chosen to go to the Island.

The Island is the last uncontaminated place on the planet. A 40% is nothing to brag about, but we think everything enjoys an interesting, intense, and sci-fi action movie, right? Plus, can you pass up Michael Bay, Ewan McGregor, and Scar-Jo? We doubt it.

5 Bad Boys (1995) – 42%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have made this series pretty iconic. This action-comedy follows two detectives who are assigned to protect a witness to a murder. Meanwhile, they investigate a case of stolen heroin, taken from the police precinct. This movie is hilarious, action-packed, and totally outrageous. We expect nothing less from these two, and we actually think Michael Bay was perfect to direct this flick. And yes, there’s another one coming in 2020, so better get binging.

4 Pain & Gain – 51%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This film follows the same kind of path as the previous. A trio of body builders get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme, and everything goes very, very badly. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, we’re sure you can expect some hilarious battles of brain and brawn, and some pretty badass moments from these three. It’s also quite funny, as “bad” of a movie as it seems to be. So tune in on a late night for some hilarious comedy, action, and crime.

3 13 Hours (2016) – 51%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

This film is definitely more serious. During an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team must try to find peace among the chaos. Starring John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, and James Badge Dale, this flick definitely has all of the drama, action, and historical twist you could ever need. Clearly, Michael Bay likes these action-packed, U.S. history moments. This one is no different, but it clearly did the best among the ratings.

2 Transformers (2007) – 58%

Michael Bays 10 Best Movies (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

It shouldn’t be surprising that the first of the franchise was the best of the bunch, and even managed to take the second slot on this list. This is where we meet Sam Witwicky, the girl he’s crushing hard over, and the entire existence of the Autobots and Decepticons. This movie is hilarious, suspenseful, and totally thrilling. We don’t care if this movie only got 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, because we’ll still watch it over and over again. Robots, Megan Fox, and Shia LaBeouf? We don’t need anything else.

1 The Rock (1996) – 66%

This older classic takes the #1 spot on the list. A chemist and a ex-con team up to lead a counter-strike against a group of rogue military men. Amidst a threat of a gas attack from Alcatraz against San Francisco, this pair must team up to end the chaos. Starring Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris, this action adventure is pretty much everything you could ask for in a Michael Bay film. Plus, it’s clearly his best, so if you haven’t seen it, you should. Even if you have, you should probably give it a re-watch before his next flick comes out.
