Michelle Yeohs Guardians Of The Galaxy Character Aleta Ogord Explained

Michelle Yeoh made a memorable cameo as Aleta Ogord in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, but who is the superhero in the comics? The Guardians Of The Galaxy movie was considered one of the biggest gambles of the MCU’s Phase Two slate. While the comic had a cult fanbase it was one of Marvel’s more obscure properties, but director James Gunn’s energetic and fun take on Guardians Of The Galaxy ensured it became a huge hit. The Guardians themselves were perfectly cast – with the movie propelling Chris Pratt into becoming a major star – and the team is one of the most beloved in the MCU.

The cast returned once again for 2017’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which revealed Star-Lord’s father is Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell). While the sequel didn’t receive quite the same level of acclaim as the original film, it was still another big success. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is due to start production after James Gunn finishes work on the DCEU’s The Suicide Squad.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced a lot of supporting characters from the comics, including Tazerface, who James Gunn once labeled “the dumbest character of all time.” The movie also features a mid-credit sequence where Ravager Stakar Ogord (Sylvester Stallone) reunites with his old teammates in honor of the passing of Yondu (Michael Rooker). This gang is based on the original version of the Guardians from the comic and includes Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, and Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord.

Gunn’s intent with this scene was to introduce the original line-up of the Guardians Of The Galaxy into the MCU, though it’s currently unknown if they’ll reappear. In the comics, Aleta Ogord is an Arcturan while Staker is her adopted brother, and they could physically merge to become Starhawk. Aleta and Staker would eventually fall in love and join the Guardians Of The Galaxy, going on many cosmic adventures together. This includes defeating the reptilian alien species the Badoon and coming to Earth to help the Avengers fight supervillain Korvac.

Aleta Ogord’s powers include flight, superstrength and being able to turn light into a solid state. Aleta Ogord would later give birth to three children, but her father kidnapped the children and turned them into psychic vampires to seek revenge on Stakar. After their children died of accelerating aging Aleta would blame Staker and split up with him. A dark form of Staker would later merge with Aleta to save his own life, but she eventually overpowered him, reverting him to infant form and sending him back in time to start his life cycle again.

Needless to say, the Michelle Yeoh Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 version of Aleta Ogord doesn’t even hint at this backstory. It’s likely the MCU version of Aleta will ditch and reinvent most of this, though it’s possible she and Stakar were still an item in the past.
